Two Acton Councillors and many other area residents are wondering how things got so out of control on Tuesday night when to 200 young people caused what was described as a not at Mill Street and Main The young people who began to assemble at hurled pumpkins and eggs at passing pedestrians and vehicles The group did not clear out until about midnight They literally took over the town said Councillor Rick Bon who was returning from a meeting in Georgetown when he passed through the area at about One Acton man has been with property damage under and another man is charg ed with assault after yelling obscenities at a police officer and throwing coffee on him Five infraction notices were also issued at the scene which resulted in police officers from Milton Oakvillc and Hills being called to the scene When Councillor Bonnett travelling wilh Councillor Norm Elliot arrived at the intersection two police cruisers he said were on the scene In all fairness their cruisers were pelted with eggs Once they left it was Police literally abandoned downtown to the troublemakers said Councillor Elliot speculating that the officers had to call for backup and regroup The road was covered with pumpkin and egg mush making driving conditions hazardous noted Counc Elliot Cars couldn t stop properly at the intersection he said The town workmen did a super job of cleaning it up he added Councillor is concern about the cost of the clean up to the taxpayers Town employees had to come out early in the morning and work until 30 a to remove all the debris By 7 a it was spotless said Mr Bonnette Both politicians got out of the car and tried to reason with the crowd when they saw what was going on Their language was pretty ripe said Elliot who was showered with eggs in suits and this summer after finding that 22 houses on Thompson Drive Court and Har Place in Stewarttown had numerous building deficiencies In my years of experience this is an abnormal situation construction practices carried out in this subdivision are not nor found in the industry said Mr Holmes at the lime of laying the charges The charges were laid under the province s building code water resources act and planning act Some of the more serious defi ciencies common to most of the houses included improperly built fireplaces A situation that if not corrected could have caused fires in the houses Under the direction of he town the Region and the province new Home Warranty Program the deficiencies in all of the houses have been corrected or are being corrected said Mr Holmes A similar number of charges had also been laid against each of the company s two principal owners Byron Dailey and Mike Latreille But as part of the deal worked out between Mr Kogon and the lawyers for these two men the town has dropped the charges laid against Mr said Mr Kogon The town also dropped all of Ihe charges except four laid against Mr he said Mr won be charged because he was only a laborer on the site he had no managerial authority explained Mr Kogon Mr only became a prm ciple of company after his father Bob Latreille died half way through the construction of subdivision But the son wasn given any Herald A 15 hour police drama ing Hamilton Gueiph and Halton Hills forces ended in tragedy early Thursday morning when a 29 year old Acton man was found in his house with what appeared to be a self dangerous said Inspector Kivell The police avoid potentially dangerous contact in such situa that might endanger the police at large and send their peo ple such a situation only as a last resort At 30 a m a robot equipped with a remote control camera was sent into the house by Hamilton Regional Police but complications arose and the unit malfunctioned Sometime after a m of ficers entered the
