beating Bishop Reding Milton and Georgetown defeated Milton 1511 Georgetown 1512 1513 and Reding to take the title There is no set league for the midgets since there are only a few teams so the four teams play a tournament every Tuesday at each of their home courts Acton took the first series with the next game scheduled at Milton on Tuesday Georgetown hosts play Jan and Reding is Jan 15 The North Halton midget championship will be hosted by Acton Feb Coach Bruce Andrews said he was encouraged with how the team has played together and winning the first tournament was a good sign He said continues to make a name for itself in the North Halton Separate School League The team won their league championship earlier last month and on Nov they took home the Bishop Reding Royal Associate School Girl s Volleyball Championship trophy for the fourth year in a row Coach Nancy Fowler said she was proud of her player s this year especially with tlu improved play from their rival schools They ve won the tournament every year it been run The competition has gotten harder over the years with a lot more sophisticated play There less of the bumping back and forth a id more setting and blocking said it was a tough road this year finishing second to St Joseph in regular season play before winning the championship in the playoffs The tournament which included all six teams from the league was closely matched as well We won eight games and lost six overall which showed how up and down things were The girls beat Our Lady of Victory in the final and 1614 In the round robin we had others in our group have nearly twice that so we had fewer students to make up our team from She also stressed that this year team was truly a united fort from the players of all the grade levels We always have players from grade six to eight but the young ones usually bat out when the big games came on This year the grade sixers have really con tnbuted in every game they ve done a great job The coach said she was also happy with the dedication her players have shown since they began the team tryouts in mid September We started playing in the se cond week of October and almost all the girls were there for every practice whether it was in the morning 50 am or after school Fowler said she also had to thank the parents for their help interest in the team Since there is no school bus they ve been needed to ferry the team to and from their games all season They ve been great Most of the time every player has had at least one parent cheering them on It really helps with the spirit of the
