in her home doing boring housework stay at borne I feel very fortunate hat I can stay at borne and provide what I see as stability for our family I would never belittle any woman for this choice Each person is tbe master of their own destiny and no one should dictate lifestyles to them Both Joan and John seem to be missing the point about families Its not a competition to see who does which Jobs nor is it a question of economics or baby manufacturing We are units that work together struggle together and love together We work that out in our own families If you perceive of yourself as a and do not en- Joy housework or self imposed isolation thats your choice Many stay at home mothers work hard at being selffulfilled women and feel very successful for it They choose many addi tional responsibilities in addition to their household duties The socalled breakdown of family unit Is a very complex issue in our very complex socie ty Each family must deal with this Issue in the best way that they can Sharing family duties trying to expose our children to the multitude of experiences that this world has to offer and supporting one another when the need arises are Just a few options Family values are evolving within our families and parents should be aware that their childrens perception of the fami ly is learned from them As women now face the many dilemnas of education and career choices and inequalities in the workplace they should not de mean the role of the stay at home mother The selfesteem of the socalled nonworking mom suffers more at the hands of some work ing women than it does at the hands of their husbands There is no lobby group in Ot tawa or Toronto to represent stay at home parents We are not recognised finanaauy We are trying to do a competent job when traditional guidelines are being constantly criticized Our reaction to ode anothers lifestyle choices does not solve family problems Personal concentration on our own family unit regardless of shops training schools etc are filled with women learning to be engineers mechanics plumbers etc etc Some are training for the military and police farces jobs that were once exclusively the domain of men Because of this reversal of world order and the ignoring of the laws of our Maker man is no longer considered to be the bread winner and protector of the Fruitvale homecoming To the Editor Have you ever lived in Fruit vale BC the heart of the beautiful Beaver Valley Are you planning your summer vacation or a weekend away in 1991 or maybe you still live nearby and would like to get reacquainted with old friends Why not make plans to attend the Fruitvale Homecoming August 24 1991 Many special events are plaira ed to make it a wonderful weekend of reminiscing with events and activities for all ages We also hope to set up a historical display so if you have any photos or items to contribute please mark them with your name and address and send them along to us well take good care of them Due to limited space for some events wine and cheese teen and adult dances pancake breakfasts beef brunch to name a few is re quired So avoid disappointment and send for information
