Social Services 1991 budget Would appear to have the greatest impact on Halton s less fortunate Halton s Social Services Com missioner Bonnie Ewart said Fri day cuts pertain to child care ser vices and programs aimed at low income earners and the elderly Just over is slated for elimination from the Health and Services budget which originally called for 8 million to be spent in 1991 That figure represents a per cent increase over the departments 1991 budget she said Approximately 50 per cent of the increase is attributed to the General Welfare Assistance pro gram a program the province requires all regions to operate Councils direction to keep department budget increases low this year explained Ms means her department like all departments isnt trying to ex pand Were only at tempting to maintain what weve got she said The commissioner points out she didnt even include the re quired 150 subsidized child care spaces which are needed for According to a Regional year child care space
