THE HERALD Juaarr Community Dr Peter Glynn accepts prestigious post Dr Peter Glynn son of former high school teacher Jessie Glynn of has accepted the prestigious appointment of Presi dent and Chief Executive Officer of Kingston General Hospital Dr Glynn left his position as the Assistant Deputy Minister for the Health Services and Pro motion Branch of Health and Welfare Canada and assumed his new responsibilities Monday fgff J Bay Dr Peter Glynn The position will make use of his extensive experience and education in health care which began when he first started school at a one room after Jessie and her husband the late John Glynn moved to the area The school located at the corner of and Road no longer exists Mr Glynn attended Georgetown District High Schol from 1956 to His activities back then included playing flute in the Georgetown Citizens Band membership in the science club library club I S F club drama club cadets and a position as staff photographer on the Challenge in 195960 During his time high school he was taught Latin by his mother for two years which Mrs Glynn remembers as a great time She recalls one night while she and her son were doing dishes when he commented on how good the lesson she had taught the class that day was in dicating Mr Glynn didnt mind his mother teaching him either After high school he attended Royal Military College in Kingston for his Bachelor of Engineering Degree which was granted in 1965 It was in Kingston he met his wife Hie couple has two children Jen nifer whos attending Guelph University and Jeffrey who graduated from high school in Ot tawa as an Ontario Scholar Glynn became a student at the University of Waterloo study ing chemical engineering and earning his masters degree in the subject in 1967 Glynn and his wife travelled to Germany where they spent the next two years in army bases while Dr Glynn worked for the Canadian Armed Forces Once back in Canada Glynn went back to the Universi ty of Waterloo and earned his Doctorate in chemical engineer ing His other post secondary education courses include management and executive development courses through the Canadian Armed Forces Univer of Saskatchewan and Ontario governments He also took a Health Care management course at Yale University School of Organize tionand Management After completing his education DrGlynn worked closely with the Ontario Ministry of Health in the role of Health Services Education with the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities He had various responsibilities with the Govern of Saskatchewan including the position of Associate Deputy Minister Ministry nf Health which involved funding and pro gram policy responsibility for 132 provincial schools nursing homes and home care units While with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health he was a member of the Board of Direc tors for three teaching hospitals and the Saskatchewan Cancer Foundation In Dr Glynn became the Assistant Deputy Minister of Health Services and Promotion for Health and Welfare Canada In that position Dr Glynn controlled a budget of seven million dollars numerous departmental pro grams In particular he ad ministered Canadas hospital m and medicare contnbu to the province Moreover he created and implemented na tional policy and programs for health promotion Concurrent with that position Dr Glynn was also the acting Assistant Deputy Minister of the Social Services Program Branch for approximately one year In his new position Dr Glynn will be responsible for the management of hospital affairs and health care services in the Kingston community Outside his job Dr Glynn Is a director and member of the plan ning and priorities committee of the National Cancer Institute of Canada and a director and member of the executive com mittee Canada Safety Council He is also a member of the ad visory committee of the Centre for Health Economics and Policy Analysis at Universi ty Being involved in organizations that reflect personal interests is something Glynn may have learned from his mother who is also actively involved in local groups She is the advertising convener for Arts and Crafts of Georgetown and a member of Friends of the Library But most people know and recognize Mrs Glynn from her years teaching at Georgetown High School from 1958 to Ballinafad church meeting By BETTY SOJKA The Annual Meeting for the United Church will be held this Sunday January The meeting will see administrators of the Church property voted in for the upcoming year The recent Womens Institute meeting on Wednesday January was held at the home of Mrs Margaret Jamieson Reggie Slessoraitis was the Conveynor for the meeting which program was on Citizenship The roll call of How we can teach our children to be good citizens brought some very thoughtful answers Betty Kooperdraad gave the motto of Peace cannot be kept by force only by understanding It was uncanny how this motto was selected for the meetings program last April but has a significant meaning this month with the Middle East troubles Ada Kirkwood gave the current events The business section in cluding plans to hold some Euchres in
