LIONS ni ANNIVERSARY YEARS OF SERVICE From the President On this our anniversary I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the contributions made by so many during the organiza tion and subsequent growth of the Georgetown Lions Club over the Thanks to the Toronto Central Lions Club who had the foresight to see the need of a Lions Club in Georgetown and their assistance in its formation Thanks to the twenty charter members who met in February 1931 and had the drive and pioneer spirit to make the Georgetown Lions Club a reality Thanks to those past Lions who all contributed in their own way as in Georgetown evolved to its present stature Thank you to the citizens of Georgetown who through the years have supported Lions activities in a most generous manner I believe that through innovation hard work persistance and en thusiasm we are meeting the challenges of an everchanging society and wdl continue to do so in the future Thank you for joining us in celebration of our 60th Club motto We Serve The International Association of Lions Club is the largest single service organization in the world today with more than 36000 clubs serving community and world needs in more than 170 countries Total membership exceeds The Lions Club of Georgetown is one of the most active member clubs of the association serving the needs of our community Cur rent membership the club is 51 The success of the Georgetown Lions Club in attracting dedicated members is that every Tuesday night is Lions Night in Georgetown The club meets at the Lions Hall Mill St The meetings held on the first and third Tues day of each month are general membership dinner meetings comprised of entertainment guest speakers fellowship and minimal business The second and fourth Tuesdays are tors meetings at which all cur rent business of the club is pro cessed Directors meetings are open to all members and an average of 35 can be found at the Lions Hall on Tuesday nights Lions are service minded members of the community who want help provide a better quali ty of life for its citizens Lions could be your doctor your lawyer or they could be your neighbour They could be your fellow worker or your postman who come together in service to the com munity country or anywhere in the world They can be found working together on many ex citing projects Whether helping the needs of the community supplying eyeglasses to Third World Coun tries building schools camps for the blind or providing fresh clean water to a community in Africa the common goal of Lionism can be summed up in our motto We Serve Library donation In a new service was added to the Georgetown Library when the Lions Club donated towards the establishment of a section for the visually impaired This initial donation provided large print books and cassette tapes to the Library Lions have continued to provide support to this very popular feature of the Library for the past seven years which has several hundred books tapes
