to provide con tinued protection for customers and workers Ontario Hydro has updated the Electrical Safety Code to include a number of amendments and new regula tions The changes which take effect March will also ensure that the province Electrical Safety Code is consistent with the Ontario Building Code and with electrical codes in other provinces Several amendments to the Electrical Safety Code concern ing the private power industry are designed to help meet Ontario Hydros energy conservation and efficiency goals Amendments to the code will also allow the in of Smart House technology as it becomes available Other major changes to the Electrical Safety Code include improving the reliability of smoke detectors by prohibiting their connection to circuits pro tected by ground fault circuit in terrupters installation rules for a number of new products a requirement that timers be included in field assembled saunas to improve their safety installation rules governing lifts for the handicapped a new section covering amuse ment parks carnivals and travelling shows About changes in total have been made The Electrical Safety Code was last updated April 1984 The new regulations are
