happen but the question was when and against whom The Dead the In dustnal Leagues newest team won their first game of the season on Thursday It was long coming but im could be seen in its rusty crew as time progressed Their victims were The Senators a team that had been steam rolling along in the second draw The key to their win was the very thing that had plagued them giving up a big end In this game the big end was the fourth The points given up were five but it was the Bill Bnggs led Senators doing the giving and it was too much from which to come back The tally was a 105 count While the aforementioned game was the toast of the even ing indeed it was not the only in teresting outcome on this last day of February Two other under dogs showed their stuff as well Bob Hirst led Swim mers squad metaphorically pull the teeth out of the second place Hog Liners Out of his den tist garb and into his pink Bob yanked end after end from his prey By the close the Hog Liners had squealed at the loss of six ends and a final tal The other underdog win was by the upstart Kendale Eight over the Fit As A Fiddles This match up however was not one where anybody got worked over It was very closely played and as the saying quite often goes it wasn t over until it was over Single points were taken in six of eight ends The other two were blanked Heading home it was a 32 ad vantage on the scoreboard for Scott Russell s Eight Enders but the important last shot ad vantage was held by Ken Irwin s As the final end pro gressed the rink was running into problems trying to find a pace to hide a rock for the steal That last pressure shot with all of the marbles on the table became the one they were looking for Irwin missed and the steal was on Eight celebrated a dog fight win On this light of action packed curling at the North Halton Club there was more curling to take in With Dave in the dining room at a shareholders meeting his JAWS squad sought relief from Tom Shillington as they were up against the first place Insurance Rockers rink Both sides were generally at their sharpest from first rocks The Rockers would take a lead and JAWS would come back Three times this happened and after seven ends of play it was a tied game with the count at 7 The last advantage was in the hands of the Rockers skip Barry who was playing his best game since his win at the Royal Mortgage Service s spiel in in midJanuary s last rock wasn need however as Phil Jones failed to dig out the counter with his final throw The Rockers stay in first place with his finish In other pairings Ralph Vin cent
