escarpment When he was in high school Larry Haskells teacher look him and his class on a hike and ever since that day he has been discovering the hills of Duffcrin County Mr Haskell a Shclburne resi dent has been part of the Bruce Trail Associations Duffcrin Hi- Land Club for many years and has a few favorite spots of his own He especially enjoys walking the area of the Mono Cliffs which you can gain access to from either of the three parking lots in the park Its the nicest area and gen erally speaking is an easy trail Mr Haskell said Although the trails which are all in good condition are mostly flat there arc a few hills for the adventurous he said A special feature of his Bruce Trail route is that the escarpment can be seen in some areas Mr Haskell explained that for the most part the escarpment is bur ied in County There is something to fulfill every interest on this route with both wooded and open areas flat trails and hills and caves for the explorers to stake out Another favorite spot of Mr Haskells is the Boyne River trail At this time of year he sometimes likes to just sit and watch the pieces of ice float by Its a nice area for sitting and just watching the water he said Located at Highway and Centre Road just east of High way 10 this section of the Bruce Trail is a fairly easy walk set in some of the most beautiful scenery he said Trails meander about and go off in different directions he said The path can be entered from the north or south end and slopes up from the Boyne River through a gorgeous cedar forest Mr Haskell said Hockley gearing Fun for the whole family Thats the best description when referring to the Hockley Valley Resort located on Hockley Road about three kilometres east of High way The resort which has just gone through a major expansion is open all year round and is just gearing up for for its spring and summer seasons On the list of activities that will keep the whole family busy is an indoor and outdoor pool fitness and games rooms tennis and squash courts volleyball walking on the Bruce Trail tours scenic Dufferin Drink the picturesque surround ings and open your eyes and ears to the beautiful sights and sounds of Duffcrin County with an invigorating walk through the countryside Andy Harrison a member of the Duffcrin HiLand Bruce Trail Club loves walking and has a few favorite spots of his own His favorite route is part of the Bruce Trail located east of Homings Mills The path runs alongside the north bank of the Pine River in the Pine River Conservation Area The trail then takes you along a beautifully treed hillside past some ponds then back to the river and out to River Road Mr Harrison said the most capti vating features of this walk are the soothing sounds of the Pine River flowing over the stones and the breathtaking view from a lookout point north of the valley Its beautiful to come down on a summer day he said Mr Harrison maintains this section of the Bruce Trail and on a recent walk through the area he spotted many animal tracks in the snow That gives you some interest as well he said Another trail on the top of Mr Har risons list is that of one on the Bruce Trail just north of the Valley Natural Science School near Whitfield This route takes you through wooded areas and crosses ravines with a series of stairs going up and down This trail is more physically tax ing Mr Harrison said The path also runs across pretty streams and at one time comes out into an open field For nature lovers just the sight of the in bloom will be worth the walk Mr Harrison said Mr Harrison said that although he likes to sec other people walking on the Bruce Trail he encourages them to join the association so that they can help with its upkeep We have to maintain it he said For
