being named the new coach of Georgetown Raiders Jr B team on Monday and having his Halton Hurricanes Major Midgets win the Central Ontario Championship on Sunday in Mil ton The culmination of Major Midget Hurricanes first AAA season was played out in a five- game series with the Hamilton Wings in the past week to decide the Central OMHA Champion ship After a shaky start to the series which saw Hamilton Jump to a convincing two game lead Hur ncanes dug deep to narrow the gap draw even and ultimately prevail with solid back toback performances in the final three games to clinch the title The opening game at Eastwood arena in Hamilton produced an victory for Wings The Hur allowed three Hamilton goals in the opening period with Trevor and Ken Koszlwka countering with a goal each for Halton Centreman Mike McPhail tied it at 33 four minutes into the GDHS Athletes This week s Georgetown District High School athletes of the week are Jen Olah and Stew Teetiel Olah is the captain of the cheerleading team and was chosen lor her leadership in whipping the team into shape for the Championships be held April at Robinson Stew Teetiel placed first In his class to help he Rebel wrestling it at 1 1 Halton then moved to a 2 lead into the third when Rob Crowe banged home the rebound from a Joe Piazza shot The lead was short lived as Hamilton pop ped four goals in 9 minutes two of them on the Tooley closed out the scoring for Hurricanes with seconds re for a win for the visitors Hurricanes found their form when they returned to Hamilton on Tuesday in a must win con test Kosziwka struck early in the opemng period converting a set up from behind the net by Sean Bourgeois and Sean Gustint Dave Osborne who had been moved to the forward line from defence for the evening created the opportunity for Trevor Elen sky to put the two goals ahead by the midpoint of the period Hamilton responded late in the period on the powerplay The score remained at until late in the second when Pat Hen nerberry tipped in a Gustini shot and a minute later McPhail broke in alone to make it 41 from a Jake pass Piazza added Hurricanes fifth and final goal of the night early in the third with assisting Wings added two goals in the closing minutes for a final score and a return visit to Milton on Saturday produced one of their highest scoring performances of the season in game four of the series with a victory in front of a vocal home crowd Hur ncane onslaught began barely 38 seconds into the game when Rob Crowe outpaced a Wings defenceman to the left corner and flicked a cross to Piazza cruising into the slot The goal was to be piazza s first of three on the night and was followed 39 seconds later by a foot bullet from defenceman Dubien assisted by Kosziwka and Gustini Hamilton answered with a goal at the five minute mark and managed to keep bottled up for the balance of the period due in part to a steady stream of Hurricanes to the penalty box Period two saw Piazza Crowe and combine in the first minute to add Halton s third goal Hurricanes put the game out of reach midway through the period when they pile on another four unanswered goals in the span of seconds Gustini started the goal fest with a wrap around from Bourgeois then Osborne slid a backhander under the sprawling Wings goalie from Crowe and Piazza Elensky and ad ded goals six and seven on the powerplay with Dubien Wade Burrows and Jake Mashinter ear In the final frame Todd Mulley drilled home a low point shot at the 8 mark from a feed to make it Hamilton pulled back one goal on a fast break two minutes later then Piazza clinched the again assisted by Crowe and Tooley with 3 remaining with Tooley assisting put Hurricanes into double digits one minute from the final buzzer and set the stage for the cham final on the same ice surface the following day jumped to an early lead game five when Crowe banged home a Piazza feed to the slot less than seconds into the con test The score remained at until the last minute of the period when Hamilton took advantage of a bad bounce in front of Hur goalie Ryan Peddle to balance the score Crowe again found the mark early in the seond with the tip in of a drive from the point Halton s lead increased to when Piazza Crowe and Gustini combined in a goalmouth scram bleats the period The advantage was short lived however as the Wings rallied with two goals in the space of seconds to close out the middle fram at 33 Hurricanes struck back early in the last period as Piazza added his second with Du and Hennerberry assisting This was followed by a goal from at the mark assisted by Elensky and Mashinter drew to within one with 4 remaining but late goals by Masinter from and Mulley from McPhail sealed the affair with a 74 final score and the Central AAA Champion ship for the Brickmen Ma Novice Sabres advance to Hub finals Acton Major Novice Leather town West Wearhouse Sabres ad to the Hub League finals by defeating Woolwich taking the best of five series the distance Sabres had been leading the semi finals series 1 but lost in St Jacob s last Tuesday when they allowed the home team to score the winner with just 15 seconds remaining in the over time period David had the lone goal for Acton assisted by Sandy Chapman In Acton on Wednesday Sabres scored first and then hung on for the victory Opening the scoring for Acton was Kyle Artem La assisted on that goal and scored the next two Ra assisted on the second marker while Artem and- Chapman com blned on the winner Woolwich scored twice within 30 seconds in the final period to
