Page THE HERALD Wednesday May Carruthers residents cleanup Herald Special Last Saturday morning the childrens craft group of Car Road CoOp run by Ellen Napier also a member of the Co- Op worked together to plant Spruce tree seeds and various flower seeds around their home It was a funfilled morning for all sowing the seeds and plann ing where to plant them followed by a nature walk to Moore Park Coop housing is affordable housing where each resident is an active member in the running and maintenance of their building It is a small community of members working together for a safe arid happy home who can also take pride In where they live CoOps are often referred to as Low Income Housing which is totally incorrect CoOps are affordable housing which means the rents are scaled to what the going rents are for the area The lowincome misconception is brought on by the fact that a portion of the units are subsidized and the rent is geared to the units members incomes The other portion of the units feature market based rents The small community at mosphere in the CoOp although surrounded by the larger com munity of Georgetown itself is one of people working together for the betterment of their little community and the children of the are no exception While growing and nurturing their seeds to plant around the CoOp to help the environment and beautify their home is a big job for ones so young it is refreshing to see such an awareness and caring in the youngsters The commitment to the en vironment doesnt stop here This Saturday one and all will be out around their CoOp cleaning up all the trash and twigs littering the property Onceit is all clean ed up and hauled away the CoOp members will then partake of a CoOp members B B and spr ing celebration We salute the kids and members of the Carruthers Road CoOp in their environmental stand and wish them luck with their trees and flowers for the future environmental health of Carruthers Road Open Door
