Wednesday successfully satisfied concerns over Gorgetown s Silver Creek raised by Oakville Regional Councillor John Graham but failed to address concerns over the valley raised by local residents Ashley and Marilyn King Council overturned an earlier recommendation by the Region Administration and Finance Committee and directed Regional staff to provide Coun Graham with a report tracing all information accumulated on all projects proposed for the valley These projects include the twmn ing of the Silver Creek Trunk Sewer Test Well and the realignment of the Silver Creek Trunk Sewer main among others Administration and Finance Committee members at first op posed Coun Graham s request because he didn t provide reason to justify the re quest Committee Chairperson Joyce Savolme told Council members In response Coun Graham said it was a simple request of which similar types have been made in the past Regional Council finally decid ed to direct staff to provide the councillor as well as any other in councillor with the re quested report Ms King and Mr Ranson however t as fortunate at obtaining what they wanted from Regional Council The two urged Council to direct staff to conduct a cumulative pact study on how the various projects proposed for the valley would impact on the surrounding environment Mr Ranson and Ms King argues it is wrong for staff to con tinue to consider the environmen impact of each project in dmdually I m concerned all the in formation won t be available for council to decide what if any projects proposed for the should go ahead given the piecemeal approach staff is tak ing said Ms King Halton s Public Works Com missioner Art Leitch told council agrees with Mr Ranson and Ms King that the projects pro posed for the valley should be ex amined together instead of separately However unlike Ms King and Mr the Public Works Commissioner believes staff is currently examining the projects from a cumulative impact perspective I don t think these projects are being looked at in isolation and it is my job to ensure they are not Mr told Council members I don see any inconsistency with what staff is doing and what the delegations are requesting he added Council sided with staff ex planation and did not approve a motion requiring staff to start Clothing Mens Ladies Childrens ALTERATIONS REPAIRS 8771598 any new reports on the valley Following the meeting Ms King said she was disappointed Council sided the staff Ms King said has been after Regional staff since last ly to show her proof it is carrying out a cumulative impact study but to date she has seen no report Mr Leitch said the Region s consultants have been requested consider the environmental impact of each project in relation to the other projects and vici versa He then went on to explain staff is in the process of developing a method of doing this type of com panson Mr in dicate when the method would be devised only saying the issue is very complex Fire Calls
