8771211 Numerous charges Halton Regional Police have charged an Acton man with two counts of assault two counts of mischief and breach of recognizance after he fought with a neighbor and damaged a police cruiser Friday Police say the man and his neighbor on Danville Avenue in Acton began verbally arguing when the accus ed pushed the neighbor against a parked car slapped him in the face and punched him in the eye The victim received minor in tunes and called police who ar rived and charged the man with two counts of assault and one count of mischief Police hand cuffed the man upon arrival and placed him in the back seat of the cruiser where he lay down and used his feet to kick the rear left door the interior of the vehicle Police charged him with another count of mischief The accused appeared in court Monday for a bail hearing Culprits caught Police have charged tw Georgetown men with of stolen property after they were observed stealing a tricycle and bike from a Georgetown home Monday Police say the female owner of the home was in the kitchen when she witnessed a 19yearold male with her son tricycle in hand at the end of her dnveway She screamed at the suspect who dropped the bike and fled on foot She then saw another 19 year old male exit her dnveway on her husband bike Police were called and caught up with the suspects who have both been charged with possession of stolen property They will appear in Milton Court July 22 Residence vandalized Unknown culprits vandalized a Guelph Street residence over night Saturday police report Sometime that night culprits entered the house and tore down ceiling tiles in the basement and threw garbage and ashtrays on the floor The culprits also went behind the bar and moved a bot tie collection around say police Investigators have no suspects but are continuing their in vestigation Assault charges Police charged a Georgetown man with assault and assault with a weapon after he allegedly assaulted his wife and a woman friend Sunday Police say a woman and her fiance visited the man and his wife in their Park Avenue apartment While hey were there the accused became abusive towards his wrap ped his arm around her neck and began to choke her The friend and her fiance began to leave the apartment telling the man he shouldn t have done that when the accused grabbed a kitchen knife and threw it at his friend as she left The man appeared in Milton Court Monday for a bail heanng Female assaulted A man who allegedly slapped his girlfriend on the rear end and hit her in the face was charged with assault by police Sunday Police say the Acton man and the victim were arguing when he grabbed her by the hair dragged her into the bedroom and slapped and hit her Police arrived a short time later and arrested the cused Fire Calls Quiet weekend Halton Hills firefighters responded to four calls this weekend star ting with an alarm activation at Park School Friday night which turn out to be a false alarm On Saturday firefighters responded to an other alarm activation at the Anne Drive Medical Centre in Georgetown Firefighters discovered there was no fire and the alarm had been set off by the smoke and dust emitted from saws being used by construction workers the building The next day firefighters were called to River Drive in Georgetown where an old mattress and carpet in the abandoned building had been set on fire There was no damage but firefighters say the place has been a popular target for vandals Their last call of the weekend was to Caroline Street in Georgetown Sunday where a citizen had reported seeing smoke Upon tion firefighters discovered the smoke was coming from a wood burning stove someone had lit in their garage and there was no need for assistance from the fire Region Planning and Public Works Committee recom mended Regional Council support a York Region resolution supporting the use of municipal solid waste cinerators in Ontario The York resolution is response to the provincial government s decision to ban the use of municipal solid waste in cinerators in Ontario Milton Regional Councillor Bill Johnson a well known supporter of waste incineration urged com mittee members to support the York resolution saying the pro vince s decision on incineration was stupid Burlington Regional Coun Pat McLaughlin said the Region is obligated to support the resolu tion because incineration is part of its waste management strategy He was referring to the fact that the Region was required to develop an Energy from Waste facility as a condition for receiv mg provincial approval for s landfill located in Milton Regional Public Works Com missioner Art told com members the Region legal department is currently try ing to determine if the province s ban on municipal waste in has any on the conditions of Halton s landfill ap proval Regional Chairman Peter urged committee not to take a confrontational stance with the province He cautioned committee
