Baseball Bantams clinch division In Bolton tournament Mike Adams Bantam Boys baseball team played superb baseball June clin ching Division in the Bolton sponsored tournament by defeating Hamilton and Beamsville on overall runs earned boys played their toughest opponent Hamilton on Friday night Hamilton Majors Team were undefeated this season going into the tourna ment Both teams played a great defensive game The Hamilton squad are noted for their great hitting ability but Georgetowns Graham Kennedy shut down their offensive capabilities strik ing out nine of Hamiltons best Kennedys effectiveness was backed by outstanding defensive plays led notably by Joe Stevens on second and Jose Mora on third Mora in the defensive play of the game snagged a hard gruond drive drilled an excellent throw to first and almost made a double out of what normally would have been a routine single out Georgetown bats came alive in the fourth inning earning all four runs by demolishing Hamiltons ace pitcher Shane Leslie Graham Kennedy and Paul In gram combined to bash out back- tobacktoback home runs Josh Petch connected for two singles during the close game but was left stranded both times Game two was played early Saturday morning against resulting in a 143 romp for Georgetown over six in nings Doug Sheppard led the team to victory smashing out a mammoth grand slam and going Melissa Watts competing in the 1314 yearold group took first in 100 metre backstroke with a time of 14049 along with a fourth place finish in metre freestyle Tania Welters placed second in 50 metre backstroke among 1112 year- olds while LaurieAnne Crocker was third in metre fly for the same group Lawn Bowling tourney won by Bakers team ByRHODAGEGGIE Herald Special Some were really experienced many had bowled before and a few had never played the game but people bowled for the CHAMPS Programme of the War Amps of Canada and raised just over This is the Annual Canada Bowls Challenge that the Georgetown Lawn Bowling Club has hosted and it was interesting to note that the team that won the trophy this year British- Canadian Club I was Skipped by Ken Baker who organized the first three Canada Bowls Days for the club With a score of points Ken led his team of Les MellishMade Whitfield June Wilde and Dave Rutherford to victory They were presented with Club Pins and their Club name will be inscribed on the trophy The BritishCanadian Team IV skipped by Peter Traynor of Streetsville with Marion Hogan Evelyn Hunt and Tuck scored points for second place The Paul Armstrong Insurance team placed third with 17 points and was skipped by Paul Ander son with Liza Traynor and Paul and Janet Armstrong A buffet luncheon was served between games and a OwnPrize Table completed the festivities Everything was donated by club members so the CHAMPS programme receives the total amount raised It was a great day and the Georgetown Lawn Bowling Club appreciates the support of the
