threeonthree event was so popular that the Haywards decid ed to expand it to 10 different cities nine of them in Southern Ontario and one in Montreal Quebec Its something thats definite ly getting more interest We saw threeonthree basketball had a big following in the US so we thought street hockey might do alright here said Bruce Hayward The turnouts went so well it wasnt too difficult to convince some major sponsors to con tribute to the project Bruce said the companies like the idea because so kids In Canada play street hockey giving them a lot of contact with their product names at the tournaments There are several competitive age categories for each event ranging from six to nine 1012 1314 up to adult competitive and recreational At each tournament prizes will be awarded to the overall cham pionship team and the first runnerup in all the competitive divisions- Each championship team wins prizes of at least in value while runnerups will receive awards totalling a minimum of 200 The adult elite divisions play for cash with going to the firstplace team to the se cond and to the third and fourth place teams Its definitely the fullest division though the age groups are pretty book ed up too Bruce explained that minor hockey organizations in each of the communities also benefit from the tournaments For sup plying referees and some other assistance the local groups receive a percentage of the entry fees received from each team Its a lot of work organizing everything from getting permits for the arenas to setting up the boards and making the schedules Being such a sports fanatic though I love it The fun part is definitely seeing the play ing knowing that most of the work for the week is over Bruce said the format he and Brian came up with has made the game more exciting allowing the goalie to play up and join the of fense when that persons team has control of the ball finis way it creates a threeontwo powerplay situation at either end creating a lot of activity Weve also made the game- a lot cleaner Anyone who fights hits or slashes will be ejected and those who fight will not be allow ed to participate in any future tournaments Also the ball we use is made from soft rubber and doesnt hurt if you get hit with it For further information and registration forms contact ThreeonThree Inc Suite 2857 Road East Ontario 1A6 or telephone 416 8736479
