the HERALD Wednesday September Community Municipal Election Veteran Currie joins newcomer Politi in Ward 3 Halton Hills Councillor Anne Currie and Georgetown resident Tom have declared their candidacy for the upcoming November municipal election Both are- seeking a position as local councillor in Ward 3 Ward Coun Currie hopes to continue her position on town council She has served on town council for three years Ms Currie who is now retired was the former news editor of the Georgetown Independent She had covered council meetings for more than years I knew the work involved in being a town councillor because I covered the meetings for many years explained Coun Currie I realized being a councillor was more than just attending Monday evening meetings A resident of Georgetown for years Ms Currie said she first decided to run for town councillor three years ago because of her coverage of the meetings that she wanted to put her money where her mouth was Ms would like to see town council address the issue of infilling in the near future that is building in existing areas She was opposed to the widening of Main Street South and feels it was a positive decision by town coun cil that this did not go through She said she will continue to fight for traffic lights at Main St North and St and a better intersection at Main St and GuelphSt Ms Currie was also a former Library Board Chairman in Halton Hills and one of the founders of the Community Legal Aid Clinic Trebbne bows out Town residents who support high density development in Halton Hills have lost an ad vocate in Georgetown resident Arthur Trebbne Mr a pro develop ment supporter has withdrawn his town councillor candidacy in Georgetowns Ward 3 for the up coming Nov municipal elec tion Contacted Monday Mr ne cited personal reasons as an explanation for his withdrawal from the municipal election race When he declared his can didacy earlier this summer Mr Trebbne said he was pro develop ment For example he favored two nig rise condominiums being built on the empty Maple Avenue property beside the North Halton Golf and Country Club Despite Mr withdrawal Grant Emmerson Tom and Ward town coun cillor incumbent Anne Currie are still vying for a council position in Ward 3 DENTURES FULL DENTURE SERVICES DIRECTLY TO THE PUBLIC New Dentines Repairs Cleaning Denial Insurance Honoured J Wheelchair Accessibility TRENTON The Clinic 1 Church St Georgetown Ont 8772359 She explained she believes higher buildings in lowlying areas where they dont over whelm the surrounding area are beneficial She used as an exam ple the former hydro property on Mill St She is opposed to the original proposal for high rise con- dominiums on Maple Avenue beside the North Halton Golf and Country Club which she feels does not fit in with the neighborhood This election will mark the se cond time Mr Politi will try to win a Town councillor position in Ward Mr who has lived in Georgetown for years unsuc cessfully ran in the previous municipal election Asked why he is running this time around Mr Politi replied because I truly like the Town and want to be part of the deci sion making process Development will be a major campaign election issue he said For instance Mr Politi supports high density housing apartment buildings as long as they are not grouped together Georgetown south would be the most ap propriate area for this type of development he added Mr went on to say he could possibly support semi detached housing on the empty Maple Avenue property beside the North Golf and Coun try Club in Georgetown Mr Politi stressed before he would support semidetached housing on the property the architectural design for the housing would have to be in keeping with the ng area Ive seen designs for semi detached housing that replicate single family homes he said Mr also said the Town will have to focus more attention on attracting industry and com mercial businesses to the area Mr Politi is married and has a son who attends Georgetown District High School He a business manager for a concrete company in Brampton Say I saw it in The Herald JAKES AUTO CLEAN
