the HERALD Page Community News Wednesday September 18 1991 Rally Day heralds the start of Sunday School By KAY WILSON Rally Day the start of Sunday School was observed on Sept 15 at Norval United Church Rev Ann Rowsell conducted the ser vice The choir led in the hymns as well as singing the anthem Shepherd of Love The first part of the service was taken up with Rally Day and was chaired by Superintendent of Sunday School Beth Beth introduced the teachers who in turn introduced each child in their class as they came j the front and received a balloon a specific color for each class The children received a special message from the Rev Ann as well as singing a musical number before going down to classes Rev Anns sermon was The Cost and the Benefits The hymn Stand Up Stand Up For Jesus closed the service Garage sale Norval Community Garage Sale will be held at the Community Centre on Sat Sept 21 am Donations may be drop ped off at home on Draper St WI catchuptime By BETTY SO Herald Special Last weeks Womens Institute meeting was held at the home of Mrs Alma Sinclair and was the first meeting for the ladies since having a break for the summer The ladies started by having a very interesting roll call Each member brought either an edible weed or flower and discussed its attributes with the group The current events were quite lengthy catching up all the items over the summer and were read by Mrs Eileen McEnery Helen Brown was conveynor of the meeting and also had an in teresting reading on the subject of agriculture For the Area convention to be held in Arthur in October Mrs and Mrs Ada were named as representatives The recent Corn Roast was a disappointment to Hall Board A low attendance also made for a low profit S and S Sound featuring J George kept the dancers in high spirits and even a limbo dance was enjoyed Special thanks to Paul Metcalfe who was on duty for the entire Ballinafad News evening at the corn pot and to Bruno Camelos for bartending The next planned dance will be the Halloween Dance to be held on Saturday October 26th at the Community Centre The Senior Choir delighted all attending last Sundays service as it was their first time back after the summer The Jim Dandies found the ex perience of playing the Niagara Falls Coors Slow Pitch Tournament on the weekend enlightening Playing with slight ly different rules and a very dif ferent style of pitching the ladies lost two of the three games played The ladies took in some of the sights of Niagara Falls and despite the disheartening losses enjoyed themselves The season finally ends exercises the roll call A Gardening Tip was answered by members and two guests President Jean May then called on Agriculture Convenor Eleanor Hyatt to introduce our guest speaker Mary Deane Crawford from Crawfords Country Gardens The Crawfords have been in business for years and specialize in perennials old and new Mary gave a very beautiful slide presentation ac companied by a knowledgeable commentary With many hybrid varieties be ing developed a perennial garden is nature at her best she said A question and answer period followed Nonne Van Leeuwen thanked Mary Deane and gave her a small gift of appreciation Our President Jean opened the business by commending Eleanor Hyatt on the lovely log cabin pattern quilted table run- ner she made and exhibted for Norval branch at the County Fergus Ont Feb 22 Seven choices will be offered FWI is making a childrens Cook Book featuring Food Bank donations which contain meat and poultry We are asked to contribute simple recipes Anniversary was discussed over lunch Our next meeting is at the home of Malchin Oct at 730 pm Program is Germany the old and the new Special seniors show Halton Tourism is hosting a Seniors Show Sept from 200600 p at the Ontario Agricultural Museum in Milton Over organizations from Halton will be represented at booths for Seniors services attractions and group travel This will be an opportunity for Central Ontario residents to see what Halton Region including Burlington Halton Hills Milton and has to offer There will be organizations promoting day trips free samples and senior services The Agricultural Museum is offering free admission and site tours Halton Seniors Groups will be providing entertainment Everyone individuals and groups are welcome to attend for an afternoon of fun and information The
