of an af filiation between themselves and the Guelph Storm Junior A organization Friday This aTfihation signed at Gordon Memorial Arena was the end result of three weeks of negotiations between the two hockey clubs The ke for this affiliation was that their Raider team philosophy in developing players and their needs seemed to be similar to our own explained Guelph Storm General Manager Mike Kelly during an informal statement I confident this move will benefit both clubs in the short term and in the long run What this affiliation means in essense is that both hockey clubs have greater flexibility in terms of developing players and changing team rosters For example if Guelph drafts a player for Junior A but decides he is not ready to play for the team lm mediately the team can send him down to the Raiders for develop- iuelph Similarly Guelph can call Georgetown Junior B players up if the team suffers from injuries Without such an affiliation Junior players cannot join Junior A clubs unless they are drafted or picked up during free agency Our players understand this op portunity to move up and play in the big time said Raider Finn Poulstrup We are also looking forward to joint promotions with Guelph It s an all around good idea Guelph GM Mike Kelly explained it makes more sense for Junior A players who are aren ready to play for Guelph to be moved to the Raiders for development rather than sit on the bench The Chyrsler Raiders had a similar affiliation with the Major Junior A Platers three years ago before the team moved to Owen Sound Mr Poulstrup said the short distance between the towns makes this affiliation even more beneficial This is a real bonus for us This is a big step towards helping us at tain our goal this year which is to be a contender for our division stated Mr Senior Rebs in action Georgetown Rebels senior football action got underway Friday with a pre season scrimmage against the Meadowvale Falcons at The seniors regular football season
