Wannabe New Democratic Party is about go up in smokeas most pipe dreams tend to do The supposed socially conscious billion deficit foisted on Ontarians is rapidly equating into an albatross like bur den on the collective shoulders of the not to mention Ontario taxpayers and the brains behind Bob are sear hither and yon for some way to protect their suddenly vulnerable nether regions Typical political navel gazing Basically what the in all its wit and wisdom- foresaw was a workers paradise with milk and honey flowing province wide begging to be scooped up What the got instead was a strong dose of reality tempered with two injections of life in the trenches Jobs were lost because the ignored business con cerns a calculated move meant to curry future votes Then these work people demanded protection un der the social umbrella as promised by the elected govern of Ontario and the proverbial stuff hit the fan the cupboard was bare The fall sitting at Queens Park will undoubtedly see the NDP government drift back to the real world Unfortunately Ontarians will bear the brunt of the mismanagement foibles The predicted deficit will rise and funds for much needed programs will be slashed This will shift the burden on providing services to municipalities already over taxing residents It nice to dream But sometimes frightening when you wake up and face cold harsh reality Community Forum future Dear Mr Gibson Back from a 5week trip to Europe when I finally had a mo ment to relax and look at The Herald I was pleased to read your editorial- The statistics you quoted on the reduction of the number of children in our society in the last 20 years fly in the face of Planned Parenthood and certain en like David Suzuki who would make us believe that one of the world s biggest problems is population explosion The dropping birth rate is in fact affecting all of the civiliz countries The old culprits such as India and China have also severely reduced their birth rate The problem is so serious in Canada that Quebec has recently taken measures to incentivale familes to have children Your editorial however stop short of condemning the main cause of the problem Abor on demand With an average of abortions per year if those children were allowed to live we would have approximate ly 1 Million more Canadians under the age of That would increase the total number of children from the current 6 Million to 8 Million Quite a bit above the figures you quoted of million I believe is where that number Should be since the total population Canada has grown proportionally since 1971 In addition to the serious moral aberration of abortion on de mand the reduced number of children in our society affects a number of professions such as teachers reduces the com petitiveness of Canadian businesses causes a reduction of the Gross National a reduction or major item sales and negatively affects our projections for old age pensions Most importantly a nation with fewer and fewer children is destined todie Sincerely Giuseppe Gori Family Coalition Party of Ontario Write us a letter The Herald wants to hear from you If you have an opinion you want to express or a comment to make send us
