people must realize hydro power Is a luxury That meansif people want their rates to decrease then they cant continue to leave their television or house lights on all night he explained At the same said steps have been taken to address this problem He went on to explain further cut backs can be made in the area of not hiring more staff and possibly putting expansion plans on hold Mr Smith who owns a local auto parts business in Georgetown said the commission is limited con cerning what expenses it can reduce Ontario Hydro dictates the cost of hydro power forcing local utilities to cover cost increases by charging higher rates to their customers ex plained Mr Smith We have to get across to Ontario Hydro that people just cant afford double digit increases he said Mr also says utilities across the province must increase their lobbying efforts against the federal government to remove the Goods and Services Tax from hydro electric power because it should be considered a consumer necessity Pointing out he has served as mayor of Hills for two terms and been a local councillor for ejght years Mr Smith said I dont think anyone could say I dont know the Town Mr Smith has been a
