referred to as innocent When described as a little in in the world of land tran sacUons at Wednesdays Halton Regional Council meeting by Oak ville Regional councillor John Graham Coun Serjeantson lashed back saying sarcastically It sounds if you Graham are telling me Im stupid and belong in the kitchen Both Councillors comments were made in connection with a staff report outlining the work that has so far been done to find alternative water supplies to service growth in Georgetown Graham questioned whether the Region way being pressured by developers to find ad ditional water to service the plan expansion of Georgetown West The Oakville councillor said he had obtained provincial cation first released in 1988 dicating if the Region abandoned a plan to establish a well in Silver Creek Valley because it would be harmful to the surrounding en vironment the province would not reimburse Halton for the money it had spent on the project Graham was referring specifically to Test Well located in the Valley Regional staff is currently carrying out tests to determine what if any negative environmental impact Test Well 15 will have on the Valley The councillor then went on to say a piece of property located south of North Halton Golf and Country Club commonly known as the Ar Valley Estate that was pur chased by a numbered company in for 000 has since been sold to another numbered company for million He pointed out the land was sold unsemced for water and sewage Coun Graham continued by saying he has been informed by someone connected with the purchasing com pany that the property was bought because promises were made that servicing would be in place so the property s development could start in 1993 Graham t reveal the name of the source or who said development could happen in 1993 Since studies are being conducted on Test Well in light of the possible environmental problems that could result and servicing is bang promised for the Arbor Valley Estate property there ap pears to be terrific pressure being applied by developers on the Region to find water said Coun Graham following the meeting In response to Grahams comments Coun Serjeantson said I dont make it my business to know about the sale of private ts of land She continued by saying it is com mon knowledge the province wouldnt reimburse the Region for work done in connection with Test Well IS Although the project is expensive It not as costly as similar projects relating to the growth of Milton she said Serjeanntson reassured Graham the Region has no in tention of Well 15 to be installed permanently if current testing shows it will negatively pact Silver Creek Valley You should be thankful you are part of a council that is doing the job right said Coun Serjeantson Councillors failed to respond to Coun Graham request that a special committee be established after the municipal election to review the work that has gone on concerning the search for water in Georgetown ollowing the meeting Chairman said the Region is receiving no pressure from developers to find additional water supplies Georgetown When Georgetown s urban boun was extended to include Georgetwon West the s it v as common practice to identify an area for residential development without first determining if there was sufficient water to service the area explained Chairman High school altercation Regional Police have charged an 18yearold male with assault level after he allegedly punched and kicked a Georgetown Distnct High School student last Wednesday Oct morning Police say the incident occurred at a m while the victim and his girlfriend were standing in front of the school The victim alleges the accused approached him without warning and punched him in the mouth and forehead The victim told police he fell to the ground and the suspect repeatedly kicked and punched him until the viceprincipal of the school came outside Then the suspect fled the scene say police The victim was taken to Georgetown District Memorial Hospital and treated for bruises to the head and a cracked tooth say police The accused will appear in Milton court Oct 28 Willow Park residents win another round ByBENDUMMETT The Herald A Brampton judge ordered the Credit Valley Conservation Authority Tuesday to pay the legal costs incurred by residents of Nor vals Willow Park for filing a motion to extend their eviction deadline The residents are required to vacate the park premises because the park lies in the Credit River floodplain leaving the residents ex posed to the possibility of dangerous flooding The CVCA ordered the residents off the property last May but the residents refused saying they had not been properly compensated for being evicted At Tuesdays hearing the judge ratified an agreement between the authority and the residents recognizing the premises will be vacated a minimum of four months following an upcoming Ontario Municipal Board hearing to deter mine the residentss compensation The hearing is scheduled for February The agreement was based on a motion filed by the residents con cerning the eviction deadline The agreement reflects the contents of the motion The judge understood our point of view because he awarded us costs for the motion said Willow Park resident Heather Croft following Tuesdays hearing The amount of the costs available at press time The residents motion came in the wake of two previous motions filed by the CVCA The first CVCA motion called for the residents to vacate the property immediately That motion was withdrawn and another motion was filed in which the residents were to leave a month after Februarys OMB hearing However that motion was also with drawn after it was opposed by the residents Accidental death Halton Regional Police have con firmed that Greg Stewart the 13- yearold boy who was found dead in an outhouse at the Terra Con Area Oct 2 died of cidental asphyxiation He died of asphyxiation as a result of being suspended from a steel bar in the outhouse said Detective Sergeant Michael He said police have also learned the boy did hitch a ride somewhere between the Peel Childrens Centre at Hwy and King St in where he escaped from to the Terra Cotta Conservation Area The people who picked up Greg read the story in the Halton Hills Herald which indicated we Regional Police didnt know how the victim got to the conservation area said Det Sgt Eacrett They called us to tell us they picked him up and dropped him off at the Terra Conservation area said the people who picked up Greg in their car noticed he t wearing any socks or shoes and called Peel Regional Police to inform them about the boy Greg Stewart had been reported missing by councillors at the Peel Childrens Centre Oct 2 at p after he escaped their care He was found in the Terra Cotta Con servation area at 10 p m by a group of girls who had gone to the outhouse The death has been ruled ac cidental and up to now no inquest has been called into the accident Election update With the Nov 12 municipal elec tion less than a month away two more local residents have declared their candidacy in what is turning out to be a crowded election race Halton Hills residents Pllutti and Kathy Gastle have declared their candidacies for Ward Regional Councillor and Ward Town Councillor positions respec tively Ms Gastle couldnt be reached for comment at press time Longtime Georgetown resident and well known local developer and builder Al said he has decided to run because the in cumbent has been in the position too long Its time for a change Mr says the major issues dunng the election campaign will include planning development taxes and the environment A more detailed story on both Mr and Ms Gastle will appear in the Oct 16 edition
