its residents Thre are presently 19 part nermember agencies receiving funding from the United Way of Halton Hills a number thats not etched in stone In fact the United Way hard to stretch its resources just a little further to add more member agencies to serve more Halton Hills citizens For example increased finan cial contributions to the United Way would enable the organiza tion to help fund the Halton Adolescent Support Services an agency that works with alienated young boys and girls aged to years Available through HASS are sup port services such as alternative living arrangements communitybased outreach ser vices and educational programs for youngsters who for a variety of reisons are unable to function in the regular school environ as a result of home or social difficulties and time are devoted to the challenging job of parenting For the illiterate a door opened to the world of the printed word when the North Halton Literacy Guild was established five years ago Since that time the Guild has been providing adults with one onone tutoring by a dedicatd group of trained volunteers These volunteers regularly work with their adult learner students to develop or upgrade their reading writing spelling and math skills These organizations are only a few of the many that have ap proached the United Way of Halton Hills for funding If the United Way is to continue to meet
