uninformed this is the road which runs through the ravine between Georgetown South and mainland Georgetown on Road South It is a regional road and the Region of posted a sign well over two years ago informing us the road was to be reconstructed Since that time we have had a school bus stalled in the valley of Hungry Hollow numerous near accidents and over 300 homes built in South Georgetown Travelling the road which is posted at 50 we have every type of vehicle from school buses to tran sport trucks to cars conveying the weary commuter home after a long and tiring day at work All these vehicles by the time they hit the bottom of the Hollow are exceeding the limit by at least 30 kmh Now we throw in the mix of young children from Georgetown South who walk down the road to get to mainland Georgetown and you have the accident waiting to happen Why has this situation existed for close to two years Well the answer is simple The Region and the en vironmentalists cant decide how to fill in the ravine and not destroy the environment Given enough time we will be able to fill the ravine with the bodies of the children who will be killed unless action is taken to solve this problem Why hasnt the Region restricted truck traffic on this road Why hasnt our School Board taken action and had the buses rerouted Why havent the police set up regular radar checks Until Hungry Hollow reconstruction is completed all heavy trucks must be taken off this road all school buses must be rerouted and the speed limit must be strictly en forced This is the only acceptable way to cut down the risk of a serious accident Community Forum Reaction to municipal elections MARGARET Im happy that alt the candidates I voted for got in I Think the campaign was more nasty than usual Im also surprised how few people came out to vote Its their right they should get out and vote CURRIE GEORGETOWN I thought it went well and Im pleased with the results Ive always lived in Georgetown so I like the fact that many candidates whove always lived in Georgetown got in I think thats good for the community BOB Good in my area Ward Three a lot of people were acclaimed Everybody got In who I voted This apparent hostility on the surface revolves around one word replacement Some weeks ago TOAD re quested that the Town pursue its option to have the Third Line replaced at the end of excavation of the UAL quarry This ac cording to legal opinion received by would make it nearly impossible to convert the area in to a private dump Council presented the motion Councillor Serjeantson commented that the word replacement was not us ed and that it should be included in the motion Councillors Hewitt and Spence who had presented and seconded the motion initialed the amendment After the motion was passed by Council Mayor Miller signed the document At this point Council and ap peared to be in total agreement Part of the motion required that letters be sent to the Ministers of the Environment and Natural Resources stating that the Town wishes to pursue the replacement of the Third Line When the letters were pro duced replacement had disap peared and the stress was on rehabilitation Councillor noted the change and asked for a clarifica tion Mr Costa Administrator who wrote the letter indicated that he had followed the motion he had been given Mayor Miller Councillors Serjeantson Hewitt and Spence said nothing and other members in chamber noted the change and expressed their disapproval At a following meeting Mr Costa stated that he had worked from the unamended motion Followup letters had been writ ten to the Ministers and he ex pressed his regrets that he had caused any inconvenience Once again FOAD and Council ap peared to be in agreement Councillor Rennie spoke next attacking and myself In particular for wasting Councils time with misinformation and that the Town pays experts to handle these matters without citizen help He accused me of misleading Council by insisting that the word replacement be used He pointed out that it does not appear in the Aggregate Resources Act and is not used by the Ministry of Natural Resources None of the other Councillors commented Councillor Serjeantson had received a letter from Mr Minister of Natural Resources directed to her per sonally using the word replace ment She had it included in the package given to regional coun cillors and the Mayor earlier The entire council also had received a letter from MNR Cambridge in their working papers Even when the Ministers letter was produc ed no comments came from council Later Mr was provided with a second letter from the Minister of Natural Resources and an additional one from Cambridge All this may seem a bit much for one word Two things must be pointed out 1 Replacement supporting our stand and that it could save the taxpayers millions of dollars that it should be tried in the most effective manner Acton Arts community selfsupporting Dear Sir During a recent allcandidates meeting in Glen Williams the question What is being done to support the arts community was raised and ex Councillor Joe Hewitts reply was the Arts community is already sup ported in this town through the John Elliott Theatre I would like to point out that neither Georgetown Little Theatre or Georgetown Globe Productions receive any support from the John Elliott Theatre We are completely selfsupporting and in fact Georgetown Little Theatre raised over when the theatre was built to put seats into the facility Since that time the groups have also donated a number of items including lighting to the theatre and have raised funds for an orchestra pit cover Georgetown Little Theatre presents three major play pro ductions each year and Globe presents two musicals thus mak ing a contribution to the com munity by providing good quality live entertainment and making use of the theatre If It were not for these productions the theatre would remain dark unused a great deal more In addition to this both groups perform a benefit night prior to their regular production dates thereby benefitting local organizations such as The Literacy Guild and St John Am bulance I hope that this information will clarify the situation and clear up any misconceptions that the public may have regarding Georgetown Theatre and Georgetown Globe Productions use of the John Elliott Theatre
