research money and maybe they 11 be able to identify one of our local campaigners In addi to this there are a group of very dedicated low profile peo ple who work quietly to help im prove the quality of life of cancer patients and their families this community Ask any cancer in Georgetown for a name and at the top of their list will be Jenny She is the driver con venor in town and provides for the transportation needs of local cancer patients for hospital checkups treatments and doctor appointments With infinite pa she performs daily miracles in matching drivers from a group of volunteers to the travel needs of ail the patients registered with the local Cancer Society Unit These rides cover many destinations from Prmoess Margaret and other Toronto hospitals to peel Memorial to Credit Valley to Hamilton and even local in town hops All in a day volunteer work and the satisfaction of knowing that someone else at the other end of a phone has been helped There are volunteers in town who provide other valuable ser vices for cancer patients and their families visitors who as recent cancer patients themselves can provide one visiting either by phone or in person to help a pa tient who needs someone to talk to someone who can help to clear away some of the concerns so who has been there Reach to Recovery visitors who do the same with the particular experience of breast cancer They can provide a sympathetic ear and an understanding of the disease which has all been gained by direct experience Friendly visitors who can provide a longer follow up visiting programme when the
