hi COLIN GIBSON Managing Editor SjSasa on a Halton Hills may need local transit system The same concern coming out of two different meetings last week was Transportation Parents m Halton Region are asking the Board of Education to expand busing for students Local seniors also expressed concern over transportation during a Com munity Forum recently held at the Georgetown Hospital Many communities the size of Hills have a limited bus service Since we are a growth community maybe its time we rethink this idea The last time Halton Hills discussed a transit system for the community it was found to be inappropriate But at that time we did not have isolated and distant areas within the community like Acton North or the proposed Subdivision Georgetown South the Sands and Hall Road We did not have the Bennett Centre or the new indoor mall currently under construction Our new council should address this growth by setting up a committee of volunteers concerned about transportation for students and seniors Lets see if it is feasible to have a bus service within the community Let s see what it will cost It may well start with a single twenty seat bus with an hourly route through Georgetown and then expand to a second bus in Acton both meeting at Silver Creek The town has grown since the last time we considered a transit system What better way to make our town grow and prosper than to provide easier access to all of our facilities With a transit system we will make it easier and safer for our children to leave school during the day and get to the doctor or dentist We will make it easier and safer for seniors to go shop ping anywhere town and to get to and from doctor s ap pointments A transit system very well maybe the one thing that will draw our town together Is a transit system a priority to the seniors yes To the parents of students Yes Can we afford to subsidize a transit system Maybe its time to find out Community Forum Christmas Wishes GEORGETOWN I wish for the best Christmas ever for my two sons Ryan and Travis DOROTHY BURGESS GEORGETOWN That I have all my family with me at Christmas and that we all enjoy each other company over the holidays EVELYN MALLARD RICH HILL I hope that everybody is happy over the holidays and that everyone has enough food to eat at Christmas CALHOUN GEORGETOWN My Christmas wish is for a new federal govern in the near future and less unemployment in the coming year Senate Crow rarnnmr Retire filii SOL MURK Peoples Public pressure will stop dump Dear Editor The following is taken from a agreement between the owners of the Acton quarry and the Town of Halton Hills If required by Council of the Town of Hafton Hills or its sue the Owner of the Acton quarry agrees that upon tinuance of mining operations at its quarry it will design and con struct an unsurfaced scenic road through the quarry located ap proximately in the same place as that part of the Third Line that is being conveyed by the Town to the Owner The design and con of the said road are to be at the expense of the Owner and subject to the approval of the Town Engineer The Ministry of the Environ does not permit a road on top of a dump The outgoing Town Council had to be persuaded to write the Ministries of Environment and Natural Resources indicating that the Town intends to pursue this option As there was little change in Councillors during the election it is unlikely that without public pressure that this Council will act any more effectively than the list This road means no dump no poisoned water and no million dollar environmental assessment your taxes The Town phone number is fax and ad Apology accepted Dear Editor Mr John Gams is right as he spotted the error in my letter last week about HIV infection of hemophiliacs The KitWoode Quote clarified Dear Editor First I would like to take this opportunity to thank publicly all of the wonderful members of this community who have been so unstintingly generous in lending their support and interest to me and my artistic endeavours over the past six and a half years It is both gratifying and touching and I feel extremely fortunate to live amongst such good friends and neighbors I also thank Ms Boonstoppel Pot of the Herald for her article published last Wednesday regarding a telephone interview she and I had following my recent book signing at Oxbow Books However I must unequivocally state that I regard as most fortunate and distressing the ac juxtaposition and lack of full context of certain quotes with respect to the visual of the central figure of Kiss Says Yes presented in one particular paragraph In following an incomplete statement or one lacking the pro per context regarding Kiss physical appearance by an incomplete quote suggestive of her nature or ability there is a strong implication of negative stereotyping which in no way represents my personal beliefs and is rightfully offensive to many people including myself Dr Kiss especially solemn de meanor is in no way related to any of her abilities or other physical characteristics I fervently hope this letter makes clear my feelings with regard to any possible pretation of that particular paragraph in Ms Boonstoppel Pot s ancle Sincerely Joanne Fitzgerald Georgetown Herald thanked Dear Mr Editor Could I please use your column to thank you for the ad in the weekly paper and the number
