Rowdy fans dampen Junior B hockey action Hello sports fans figured it was about time I got into the game and started offering my opinions on the sports scene in Hills Junior B hockey has gamed a lot of exposure and respect in the past few years in Ontario particularly the Central Ontario Junior B League in which the Georgetown Chrysler Raiders play One thing that has my enjoyment of competition in this league and perhaps many other fans as well has been the behavior of several so called fans Let me take you back to a evening in late November I had travelled to Arena to wat ch the Raiders take on the hometown Blades I had my trusty camera in hand note pad at my side and was ready to take in some exciting hockey featuring two of the top teams in the league It wasnt long before the action got hot and heavy and fans from both Georgetown and star ted screaming words of en couragement to their local favorites Being wrapped up in the game with picture taking and everything I tried my best to ignore harsh wor that began flying around the arena concerning what fans thought of their teams opponents but Sports in Perspective Steven LeBlanc before the first period was finished a group of young Georgetown fans many seated with mothers started a battle of words with about half a dozen Oakville residents screaming profanities that would have caused my mother to leave and my father to blush After about minutes of this nonsense almost all opposing fans got into the battle and referees were forced to step in and control things when some of the fans ap peared ready to take things a little further I have witnessed similar cases although not to this degree during the season and all I have to say is that this kind of garbage can rum a good night of hockey hese Junior B players work hard and many are looking towards breaking into the Major Junior scene or going on to play at the college or university level They dont need stupid distractions to mess with their determination and effort If these same people had acted in such a way in any other public place they could very well have been charged with distrubing the peace or public mischief Listen that admission doesnt give you permission to leave your manners at home and act like total idiots My advice for the few of you who feel you must voice your shameless opinions during hockey games stay home and scream at the Leafs youre irritating the rest of us Wednesday January 1992 Page IS ALL POSTAL SERVICES AVAILABLE 9am9pm EXCEPT PRIORITY POST VOUnG5 ITD Downtown Georgetown STEVEN Sports 16 Burns
