That was as close as they got as the Devils took over with three consecutive goals to take a commanding lead. Christy Gedge, Carolyn Hill, Nicholl Spence and Deb Evans with her second goal, rounded out the scoring for the Contractors. Linda Vickery and Nicholl Spence had single assists while Carolyn Hill had two helpers. Daina THE NEW TANNER Shut out for AE Atoms The getconnected Acton AE Atom Tanners travelled to Ancaster on the weekend to take on the undefeated season leader, the Ancaster Avalanche in their last match up in regular season. The Tanners broke out in the first, dominating the ice, not allowing much game play in their end of the rink. Jack Kennedy scored the first goal of the game, with the assist going to Devin Muise, exhilarating the supporting Acton fans. The intensity grew in the second period. The Avalanche threatened with breakaways in the Acton zone, but the Tanners were strong, continuously shooting on the Avalanche net, and defensively clearing the puck out of their end. Kennedy is credited with the second goal of the game, unassisted, with 5:45 left on the clock. By the third period, the Avalanche came alive, and relentlessly attempted to reclaim their undefeated status, but Tanner goalie Mathew Adkins would not allow it. The Tanners response to the Avalanche threat was the third goal of the game going to Muise, assisted by Michael Holmes, with the fourth and final goal scored by Muise with 2:18 remaining. A shutout is sweet, but a shutout against a team that has not been defeated yet this season is priceless. Head coach Scott Holmes attributed the win to the incredible teamwork and determination shown on the ice. He told the team to hold their heads high, as each and every member of the AE Atom team is credited as "player of the game" to achieve the McKellar and Dana Selby tallied for the Sharks. In the second game Smooth & Trendzy Cougars blanked Acton Optical Lightning 2 0. Liz Holmes scored in the first period on an unassisted goal, which proved to be the game winner. The game remained close until late in the game when Tina McLeod scored an empty netter from Ute Cole. Jannette Jensen earned the shutout for the Cougars. This Friday night at the 10 p.m. game, the DNR Contracting Devils visit Smooth & Trendzy Cougars. The 11 p.m. game features Acton Optical Lightning versus the Active Choice Sharks.
