6 Eight Acton Seniors Recreation Centre board members and Wendy Krever, the Acton Seniors Centres co-ordinator, plus other interested members attended the Town of Halton Hills January 4, 2011 budget meeting to show their support of the presentation by Vice-President Bev Jones. Bev is also our Fundraising committee chair. Bev, on behalf of the Board of Directors, supported the recommendations in the staff report to Council in which the seniors said they would like to move ahead with their fundraising campaign for the future expansion of the Acton Seniors Recreation Centre. It was great to see eight people enjoying the Tuesday afternoon movie Eat, THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, JANUARY 13, 2011 Pray, Love last Tuesday. The Tuesday movie next week will be at 10 a.m. due to the Birthday Tea in the afternoon. Michelle has chosen Second Hand Lions. It came highly recommended by Arline, and stars Robert Duval and Michael Caine. I will get to enjoy cake and ice cream to celebrate my birthday this month. About two thirds of our members have renewed for 2011. Please come in and renew as soon as possible, so you can take advantage of the many interesting programs, and activities at the Centre. For many years, we had a very active Tai Chi class. Due to lack of interest the classes were cancelled for the winter session, but if there is renewed interest they could resume at the end of March. There is a sign up sheet for anyone interested. We have changed the books and videos on our shelves. Are you are looking for something to read or watch for a couple of hours when the weather outside is perhaps blustery and cold or there is nothing of TV? Stop in and check out the shelves. There might be something there that would interest you. You do not have to sign anything; just return the books or videos when you are ready. I see there is a new dinner theatre trip planned by the Travel Club. They are going to Carmen's Dinner Theatre in Hamilton for lunch and enjoying "The Crooners" Sinatra, Orbison and Darin. It sounds like a great way to spend Valentines Day. See the sign up sheet for more information. Betty assures me that although we have a Valentine celebration that evening at the Centre we will be back in time for that too. What a day! Two celebrations in one day! Hollywood may have their stars on the sidewalk, but the Acton Seniors School Year 2011-2012 Junior/Senior Kindergarten LEAVES OF LOVE: At the Acton Seniors Centre on Friday, John Buckman placed the first of three leaves in memory of his wife Freda on our Looking to the Future trees. They were purchased by "Lunchtime Buddies" and "Friends of the Acton Seniors Centre". Julie Conroy photo Centre is very proud of the leaves on our trees. Each one represents $50 and is placed there by either friends or families celebrating either a happy event or in memory of a loved one. This week, five more were added. Three in memory of Freda Buckman from her "Lunchtime Buddies" and her friends at the Centre. The other two, by Sharon Porterfield and Leah Youngblut, in memory of their mother Annie Leslie. This brings the total to over 80 leaves which total $4,000 towards our future building fund. The 50/50 was won this week and it was great to see a very deserving person win. Betty Green has worked many volunteer hours over the years and is still on the Board. She won $148.
