Appointed for a four-year term, members of these groups review and discuss many important issues. These appointments give Halton residents from a variety of backgrounds the opportunity to contribute their skills and perspective to enhance the quality of life in our community. Development Charges Advisory Committee (DCAC) Purpose: To advise and assist the Region with respect to preparation of the Development Charge Background Study, which is part of the Development Charges By-law update process. Members needed: 4 citizens Meetings: As needed during preparation of the Development Charge Background Study. Contact: Paula Kobli, Senior Advisor, Development, 905-825-6000, ext. 7184 Halton Agricultural Advisory Committee Purpose: To advise and assist the Region in its effort to develop and maintain a permanently secure, economically viable agricultural industry as an important component of Halton's economic base. Members needed: 2 to 4 citizens from the agricultural community at large 2 citizens selected from the equine sector Meetings: First Tuesday of each month, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Contact: Stirling Todd, Senior Planner, 905-825-6000, ext. 7186 Elder Services Advisory Committee Purpose: To advise the Region on policy issues and services that affect Halton seniors. The Committee's goal is to promote the well-being and quality of life for seniors in the Region. Members needed: 8 to 10 citizens, including a minimum of 4 seniors (55 years plus) Representatives from the following: 1 Seniors' Housing 4 Regional/Local Not-for-Profit Community Service Providers Serving Seniors 1 Private/Professional Community Service Serving Seniors 1 Private Retirement Home 1 Not-for-Profit Long-Term Care Facility 1 Hospital Meetings: Second Tuesday of each month, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Contact: Sue Haggith, Community Development Coordinator, 905-825-6000 ext. 7767 Halton Regional Forest Stewardship Advisory Committee Purpose: To advise and assist the Region with respect to the implementation of the Halton Regional Forest Management Plan. Members needed: 4 citizens with interest or expertise in forest management and/or ecology Meetings: Quarterly, or as needed. Contact: Ron Reinholt, Regional Forester, 905-825-6000, ext. 7279 Inter-Municipal Advisory Committee on Sustainability (IMACS) Purpose: To provide leadership in guiding sustainability, facilitate coordination of best practices, and identify emerging sustainability initiatives in Halton. The Committee will also provide direction and advice on the development of a decision-making "Sustainability Lens" for Halton Region. Members needed: 4 citizens 1 representative of the development industry in Halton Meetings: Monthly, or as needed. The Committee is responsible for assisting in the ongoing implementation of Halton's Comprehensive Housing Strategy, the recommendations from the Halton Housing Task Force and other initiatives which address housing and homelessness issues in Halton. Members needed: 4 citizens 1 Housing Development Industry 1 Financial Institution or Business Community 6 Non-government agency representatives from Emergency and/or Transitional housing, Assisted/Affordable housing, Accessible housing, and/or Supportive housing for people with mental illness Meetings: Third Wednesday of each month from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Contact: Sally Pincock, Housing Initiatives Coordinator, 905-825-6000 ext. 4447 Joint Municipal/Regional Waste Management Advisory Committee Purpose: To advise and assist the Region on the minimization of waste going to the landfill site through such activities as reduction, reuse and recycling (3Rs) of solid waste generated in Halton. Members needed: 8 citizens, at least two of whom represent rural areas Meetings: Quarterly, or as needed, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Contact: Shirley McLean, Supervisor, Waste Planning, 905-825-6000, ext. 8235 Halton Diversity Advisory Committee Purpose: To advise and assist the Region in raising awareness of issues of diversity in the community while promoting respect, access and inclusivity for all Halton residents. Members needed: 8 citizens Meetings: Quarterly, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., or as required. Contact: Zerezghi Haile, Diversity Advisor, 905-825-6000, ext. 7972 Regional Waterfront Parks Advisory Committee Purpose: To advise and assist the Region with respect to the development and management of the three Regional Waterfront Parks, being the Bronte Harbour, Burloak, and the Burlington Beach/Spencer Smith Waterfront Parks. Members needed: 5 to 8 members representing a cross-section of the community, merchant, business and resident interests Meetings: Quarterly, or as needed.
