Professional Vehicle Detailing Interior and Exterior Cleaning Call now to book an appointment Fat Cat Dog and Carwash 6.5% Town tax hike proposed The proposed tax hike this year for town purposes is 6.5 per cent following the addition of $168,000 worth of projects by the budget committee last Tuesday. Although there was a lot of talk among committee members about what a tough budget year it is, the additions were made in one night not the scheduled three. When combined with a regional tax increase of 1.4 per cent and no anticipated change in education taxes, the total tax increase would be 2.9 per cent $29 more for each $100,000 of assessment. The average assessment in Halton Hills is $325,000 to $350,000. The $30.6-million operating budget which is slated for Council approval on January 24 includes a base budget (to maintain the status quo) of 3.7 per cent, 1.2 per cent for a fire 165 Main St. Rockwood 519-856-0222 levy, 1.6 per cent for a special infrastructure levy and 0.6 per cent for a library operating levy. A revenue summary shows that 68 per cent of the money coming to the Town is from taxpayers an amount which is "rather high" according to Treasurer Ed DeSousa, adding that the user fees now 10 per cent will be looked at because they are low.
