"Your commitment is commendable and the representation of our community is truly admirable." THE NEW TANNER 3 The Acton Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society continues its search for a campaign co-ordinator someone to oversee the annual Acton door-todoor canvass for funds and other special events, which raise money for cancer research. For the past three years, following the retirement of veteran campaign chair Liz Bailey, the Wellington Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society has taken over some of the work for the Acton campaign, including putting together the canvasser kits. Bailey said it is becoming very difficult to find Cancer campaign prep people who have time to canvas a route, and maybe people are not as willing to open their door to canvassers. She said there was some confusion with an e-mail that mistakenly said Acton canvassers would have to go to Guelph to pick up their kits, but the kits will be available for pickup at an Acton location, which has not yet been identified. "For the second year, volunteers in Guelph are calling canvassers and preparing the route kits for our loyal canvassers, some of whom have been going door-to-door for decades," Bailey said recently. "We have one canvasser, Dorothy Rognvaldson, who is 93, and just gave up her route after 40 years. One of our rural captains led a team of 24 canvassers that brought in over $10,000 last year," Bailey said. She said for those who don't like to make donations at the door, the Acton Branch has daffodil sales, and special FAMILY ZUMBA: Jennie Severinac (left) along with daughters Laikyn and Tehya Fleming (standing) enjoyed the free Zumba class on Monday, hosted by the Town at the Acton arena/community centre for Family Day fun. Kelly Kennedy Photo events, like the Relay of Life. Instead of a spaghetti supper campaign kickoff, the Acton Branch invites everyone to hear about the latest cancer treatment options from a guest speaker at Knox Presbyterian Church on March 30.
