12 Last Tuesday, Vikki Buckner was at the Centre with a wonderful collection of African jewellery. It is all crafted by teenage girls who have been rescued from poverty and hunger in Kenya, and now live in some of the satellite homes which were started in 1989 by Charles Mulli. The girls are paid a fair price for the jewellery, and once it is sold any profit goes back to the Mully home. The Mully Children's Family homes are self sufficient, and farming is a large part of their ability to be self sufficient. Buckner has visited Kenya many times, and while there met Pauline Barlow's daughter Jennifer on several occasions. On Wednesday, March 30 another bus of Seniors from the Acton and Georgetown Centres enjoyed the day at THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, APRIL 7, 2011 Rama. Ruth tells me that the 50/50 was won by Olga Lazovoy. Celebrating birthdays were Joan Hayes and Alison Colter, and in the lucky seats were Renata Dzieciol, Shelby Doucette and Gerry Chafe. The bingo winners were Marie Prueter and Wilda Tressel. It's nice to see some of the Snow Birds have returned from their second homes. Welcome back. Hope to see you all at the Centre. Elma Braida had the only mooner at last Thursday afternoon's Bid Euchre. The Alia Fashion show was cancelled due to a mix up at the Milton store. Hopefully, you managed to catch the show at the Georgetown Seniors Centre the day before our's was originally scheduled. Pauline hopes we will have better luck with the Fall Collection. On Friday, April 1 twelve more leaves were added to our "Looking to the Future" trees in memory of Nettie Field. One was from her daughter Nicki, three from her friends at Eden House, one from the families at Rockwood Nursery School, five from her friends at the Acton Seniors Centre, and one from Leathertown Lassie Red Hats. What a wonderful tribute to a great lady. One additional leaf was in memory of Nettie, Frieda Buckman and Tom Walker, donated by Elsie and John Ashworth. It's not too late to get your ticket for the dance tomorrow (Friday) night at the Acton Legion. It is a joint dance for Acton and Georgetown Seniors Centres, but we welcome anyone who enjoys dancing. Remember you don't need a partner to enjoy the dance. The D.J. plays great music, and the dancers are raring to go. Don't dance? Then come and listen to the music and enjoy an evening out. Our Tulip Time dinner is on Monday, April 11, and tickets are available at the front desk. I know this will be another successful evening thanks to the hard work of Real and his committee. The 50/50 was not won this Friday so the total next week should be over $300.
