4 Trunk Sale kickoff treasures THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, JUNE 2, 2011 SWEET TREATS: Wet weather did not deter baker Celina Harasynchuk of Mississauga, a regular at the Acton Trunk Sale which kicked off the season on Saturday. Ted Tyler photo FOWL HANDIWORK: Acton's Joe Snook had a bird house for almost every type of bird for sale at the first Acton Trunk Sale of the season on Saturday. Ted Tyler photo Town wants 1.8-million from province for Georgetown Hospital If Health Minister Deb Matthews could just see the cramped, aging facilities doctors, nurses and medical staff deal with daily at Georgetown hospital, she would readily provide a $1.8-million shortfall in a $12.1-million project for a CT Scanner and expanded/ renovated emergency and diagnostic imaging departments. That's the thinking of Mayor Rick Bonnette who invited the Minis ter on a tour in a letter sent following Council's unanimous vote last Tuesday to grant Halton Healthcare Services $2.6-million towards the project. "You can now say the Town of Halton Hills has put our money where our mouth is to support this $12.1-million project," Bonnette wrote, adding this would be the first expansion at the Georgetown facility since it was built in 1961, despite growth in the town. This is Bonnette's fourth letter to the Minister in three months on the issue and he told the Minister last week that he "anxiously await(s) your reply." Washer stolen A power washer left on a Poplar Avenue driveway was stolen on Sunday. No details were released. Hit and run Approximately $1,000 damage was done to the rear bumper and window of a Ford Windstar van following a hit and run behind Acton High School last Wednesday morning. False alarm A Tanners Drive homeowner was advised to replace a carbon monoxide detector that sounded without apparent reason at 7:21 last Thursday night. Grill smoke Heavy smoke from a barbecue grill at a Kingham Road residence sparked a burn complaint to Acton firefighters at 1:51 last Monday afternoon. The homeowner said the excessive smoke was generated when he lit the charcoal barbecue. No permit A homeowner at 67 Churchill Road North was told to extinguish a small fire after a complaint about smoke at 12:22 p.m. last Saturday. The homeowner did not have the required burn permit and was instructed to get one before burning anything else. Burn complaint While a Matthew Court resident did have a required burn permit, smoke from a backyard burn sparked complaints at 4:43 last Friday afternoon, so the homeowner was advised to extinguish the fire.
