Special Olympian Ready Rural Acton's Emily Boycott hopes to repeat her multi-Gold medal winning performances at the Special Olympic World Summer Games, which begin later this month in Athens, Greece. At the last games four years ago in China, Boycott, a member of the Oakville Butterflies, earned five Gold medals in Rhythmic gymnastics. Her mother, Debbie Boycott, made the 2007 trip as an assistant coach, this time she is head coach for the five-member team which includes four members of the Oakville Butterflies and one athlete from Ottawa. "The team is peaking just at the right time," Boycott said on Monday, adding the training to date has included nutrition plans, work with a sports psychologist, strength training and visits to large competitions to give the team a sense of what competing at the Special Olympics will be like. Depending on the level of competition, Rhythmic gymnastics can include ribbon, ball, clubs, ropes and hoops. Boycott said the team flies to Athens on June 18, and then boards a ship for a sail to their host community on the island of Rhodes, where they will stay for four days until they head back to Athens for the June 25 opening ceremonies and their competitions.
