THURSDAY, JUNE 30, 2011 THE NEW TANNER I would like to thank The New Tanner for featuring members of the Acton Seniors Centre during Seniors' Month. I hope you found it interesting to discover a little about their lives, and how they have contributed to others during their busy lives. I hope to feature more Centre members during Seniors' Month next year. If you know of anyone who has led an interesting life, I would love to hear about them. Have you noticed the new Acton Seniors Centre logo on the sign as you enter the Acton Seniors' Centre? The new logo symbolizes that Halton Hills seniors are an integral part of our community and reflects the importance of older adults in our community. At the centre of the logo is a tree sapling representing the continuous need to grow and learn, welcome change, new ideas and new members. A mature tree encompasses the sapling, representing wisdom and proven leadership. Like the mature tree seniors are the strength and core of our community. The harmony of the two trees is intended to reflect the changing needs of seniors in our community. The travel desk asked me to mention a trip they have planned for Thursday, July 14 to Drayton Festival Theatre see a play called Italian Funerals and Other Festive Occasions. They will be stopping en route for lunch at Windfields before the show. The July 5 movie at the Centre is Adjustment Bureau a thriller. I see several people have signed up for shuffle board on Monday mornings. Are you interested in learning to play or joining them? Over the years, the Centre has collected plastic tabs from the bread and milk bags. The lady that was collecting has stopped. I understand they did obtain a wheel chair from the tabs. If anyone else is saving them, please give the Centre a call and let us know. We have several coffee cans ready for pick up. I am not sure if this is an old note on my desk, but it tells me that Elma Braida had a mooner last Thursday? Everyone enjoyed the trip of Mohawk, and I have put another sign up sheet ready for anyone interested to add their names. I understand the September trip will feature "Rib Fest". I know there were several smiling faces on the return trip last week, (including our bus driver). Some people were lucky and picked winners in the races and some won at the slots. The list for the September Blue Springs Golf game is also up. On a sad note, Marion Pascoe passed away this week. She enjoyed the Friday lunches, Bingo and the social dinners and especially a little flutter at Rama. We will miss her. Our condolences to her family. Due to the Centre being closed on Canada Day, the 50/50 will be drawn on Thursday this week.
