After discussing it, we decided that it would be a great day to make it a family adventure. He's been working long hours lately and it would be great to have the time together. So we loaded up the kids...yes, it is now plural with the addition of our son this month (I haven't come up with a "pen" name for him as yet)...and hit the highway east to Trenton. It was a good day for a road trip as it was too icky to do any yard work. It started off to be a normal type road trip. Following a quick stop for coffee and fuel we were soon on the highway. It should have been normal yet somehow when we go places, I have a tendency to find the abnormal. A few years ago when we were in Buffalo we had come across a funeral home called Amigone Funeral Home...get it AM I GONE? Then there are the many, many times that when I am driving in the States I always seem to get lost and end up in the shadiest parts of whatever town we are in. When we got to Trenton, everyone needed to stretch and most importantly I needed a washroom. I headed into the parts place and as my tush was on the throne in front of me was a sign that read "Warning this toilet is cleaned by men." This made me think of By Angela Tyler two things. First, the sign should have been on the door that way I may have had different thoughts about using the washroom. My second thought, which is based on my own experiences with men cleaning toilets was the words toilet and cleaned by men was an oxymoron with the word moron not intended on being offensive. In my experience, rarely does a man clean a toilet. Either way, the sign was entertaining. While the Dude was doing his business transactions, the kids and I headed off in the stroller for a walk around the neighbourhood. The rain had subsided and a walk always entertains us. We were in a residential area with a small business area behind it. The houses reminded me of cottage style houses that were winterized for full year use. We were bird watching and noticing dogs and all the stuff kids notice on walks when I saw more of the unique stuff that seems to be attracted to me. First, was a house, or at least I am pretty sure I saw a house. It was hard to see because of all the stuff that cluttered the yard. There Looking Back Ten Years Ago · Halton police caution that motorists speeding on Halton Hills roads being used as shortcuts to get to the GTA will get caught in an enforcement blitz. · While high levels of bacteria closed Acton's Old Beach for swimming, water sample test results showed it was safe to swim at the so-called Boathouse Beach. · Members of the Acton High School 2000 reunion committee dedicated a new sign at the corner of Churchill Road and Queen Street in memory of former principal Ted Hansen. Five Years Ago · Successful fundraising efforts prompted Town Council to instruct staff to prepare tender documents for the Acton Agricultural Society's new building in Prospect Park. · The Acton Trunk sale is forced to take a six-week hiatus because of construction underway on Eastern Avenue and York Street. · The Rotary Club of Acton hopes to have its new bandshell built in Prospect Park in time for the Acton Fall Fair. was a lot of stuff, and it was the type of place that if you were a kid, you probably wouldn't go trick or treating there. The funny thing was almost hidden behind all the junk was a no trespassing sign that was attached to a six foot high locked wooden fence that you couldn't see behind. How could you trespass even if you wanted to? As we went up the next street, we headed more for the commercial business area. We went by a food bank. I noticed the sign on the front door saying that it closes for two weeks in the summer, but it didn't say which two weeks. Hope the patrons stock up when they were there for the weeks it is closed. Beside the food bank building was a great big sign for storage rental space that one would rent for a camping trailer or boat or such. The first words on the sign were "secure outdoor storage." As we continued to head back and walk by the secure storage yard I noticed something else that was a little abnormal. The secure storage area had a fence along the front, but the side yard only had fence posts, with no fence. Yep, another road trip and more oddities. Just once I would like a normal, boring, not odd outing, that didn't involve me driving into the ghetto or finding things like Amigone Funeral Home.
