Benefit for Mill artist raises $14,000 Once again the artists' community of Glen Williams rallies in support of one of their own. Over 150 friends, artists and townspeople raised $14,000 during a benefit for Gordon Wright and his partner, Lori Mason, at the Williams Mill Visual Arts Centre in Glen Williams on Saturday, January 9. In mid-December renowned stained glass artist, Gordon Wright, was stricken with kidney failure. He was admitted to hospital and his condition required that he begin dialysis immediately. Wright's fellow artists wanted to support him as he was unable to continue at his craft until his condition was fully diagnosed and his dialysis was regulated. Carol-Ann Michaelson, a potter at the Mill , with the help of Karen Grant, a longtime friend of Wright's and the support of all the artists at The Williams Mill began planning a suitable event and venue. The members of the glassblowers co-op agreed that their studio would fit the bill for space and so it began. A 50/50 draw was also held to help raise funds. Music for the evening was arranged by Don Ablett. Bruce Madole, Ablett & Cooper and the five-member band, Random Roads, rounded out the evening and kept the party hopping. Green Ribbon pins in support of Organ and Tissue Donation and pamphlets, supplied by the Kidney Foundation of Canada, were available to all. The event continued into the small hours of the morning, filled with conversation, refreshments, music and most of all friendship.
