OPENING JANUARY 6TH Plans for new Acton Library to be unveiled at Open House Residents will get an opportunity to talk to the architects and builders of the new Acton library at a special Community Open House next Thursday. Architects Stephen Blood and John Knox of Chamberlain Architect Services Ltd. and Ella Mamiche of ZAS Interiors Inc. will reveal the exterior design and interior layout of the new $3.5 million library. Jeff Shantz and Mike Laurie of MelloulBlamey Construction Inc. will also be on hand to answer questions about the schedule or related matters. The new Acton Branch Library will be 9,000 square feet-- versus the present 2,700 square feet-- and will be built just east of the present site. It will be accessible to persons with wheelchairs, scooters, walking aids, and strollers. The bigger size is appropriate because in 2009, the Acton branch loaned out 101,481 items-- the first time ever borrowing has passed the 100,000 mark.
