30 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, January 21, 2010 Georgetown Seniors Centre is desperate for fundraising ideas By FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre It appears things are back to normal at the Georgetown Seniors. That all depends on what you consider normal. Instructed classes have begun. Unfortunately a couple of classes were dropped due to insufficient enrolment. In another few days your 2009 membership will have lapsed (Jan. 31). Keep in mind you must have a current membership card (2010) to take part in any of the drop-in programs. Our Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. Come to find out how your Centre is doing and what you can do to make it a better place. Elections for board members take place also. A sandwich lunch, tea/ coffee, and fruit will be available for $5 before the AGM. The Day Trippers are going with Great Canadian Holidays to a St. Patrick's Day party at Carmen's Dinner Theatre. You will need to see or call me to register for a seat. Of course, the date is Wednesday, March 17. It promises to be a day of food, music, song, dance and comedy all with a liberal sprinkling of blarney. We are still in desperate need of fundraising ideas. If you have one or many, please bring them forward to the board. Your Centre will be on display at the Community Open House to be held at the Georgetown Market Place on Saturday, Feb. 6. Drop by our table and say hello. Before I close this article I would like to encourage each and every one of you to dig into your pockets and make a donation to help the relief effort in Haiti. The size of your gift is not important but the fact that you did give is very important. Seniors, are you finding it hard to cook for yourself? Are you concerned about your nutritional needs? Then give us a call to find out about our Meals on Wheels program and the options that are available. The meals are delivered right to your door by wonderful volunteers, who also provide a friendly face and a smile to brighten up your day. This contact can also provide a check for the clients' well-being. Meals on Wheels-- more than just a meal Choose a sandwich meal, a lighter choice, or the traditional choice, a hot three-course meal. Meals can be provided with as little as 24 hours notice.
