Halton Hills residents rally 'round kettle campaign By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer Area residents really came through for the Salvation Army's kettle campaign in both Acton and Georgetown. Acton's kettle campaign was up by about $2,500 over the previous year. In total $33,763 was deposited into the kettles this Christmas. "We're happy the public came through," said Major Dean Locke. In Georgetown the goal was to raise $60,000 in the kettles in December. The total raised was $70,000, which was the same amount raised the previous year. "We got off to a slow start but in the last week the public came through just booming," said Major Renee Clark. Both Locke and Clark want to the thank everyone for their support. "I would like to thank all the volunteers and the public for everything they did to make the campaign a success and in return allow us to service the community better," said Clark. "Thank you to the community that supported the ministry and the Salvation Army in both the kettle and mail campaign. It's been overwhelming," said Locke. Locke also wants to thank all the kettle volunteers and everyone who helped with the Christmas program and the toys. He said the recent mail-in campaign in Acton was up to $30,521 from $29,132 the previous year. The Georgetown mail-in campaign raised $20,000. 7 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday, February 9, 2010 Runners raise $3,500 The Georgetown Runners recently held its 27th annual Egg Nog Jog with proceeds going to Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills and the GDHS Field of Dreams project.
