2 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday,February 9, 2010 Lonely Lorelei needs companionship and understanding desperately By JUDITH-ANNE KOLU Upper Credit Humane Society volunteer Lorelei is a 3-4 year old GSD, 75 lb., housebroken, has her basic commands but leash walking needs work to keep her focused on the task at hand. Lorelei likes car rides, is tolerant of cats and other dogs. Pretty though she is Lorelei has not had it easy, we do not know what her early life was like in her formative months but something happened to her that has left her overwhelmed by feelings of abandonment which YOU AND YOUR PET manifests itself into "separation anxiety" when faced with just her own company. Lorelei must be adopted by a family where someone's home almost all the time; at this stage of her life she cannot be left for more than an hour or two. She listens and pays attention to people who are dealing directly with her. Lorelei would not be suitable for children under 8 years old, but rather those who would not tease her, but would be old enough to understand her challenges and help her reach her potential. Lorelei does (on paper) sound a Pet of the Month bit of a handful but we truly feel that at a family with GSD/"special needs" experience who are loving, patient and firm and can give ive Lorelei the guidance and structure she he needs will be rewarded with a wonderful girl down the road. If you would like to meet her call 519-8332287 or email adoptions@uppercredit.com. LORELEI Kiki is a longtime resident who deserves a loving family By JUDITH-ANNE KOLU Upper Credit Humane Society volunteer Hearts ache and break when you look at the sweet "princess" called Kiki-- how can we get her a home? Kiki is a four-year-old black DSH female who has been in residence at the Shelter since September, 2008 (17 MONTHS)....eons of waiting, but still Kiki perseveres and retains her very sweet nature. Kiki is used to the other cats and socializes normally yet enjoys her "alone" time if she can find her own space. However, she has some special friends and occasionally snuggles with them when inclined. Laid-back, easy going Kiki has her act together and would not be a "high demand" feline. Kiki has a distinctive meow, short, quick and semi-quiet which really is only heard when she comes directly for attention which is not very often. In fact, any visitor has to look for Kiki because she prefers to be "found" rather than give an "in your face" greeting...which we feel after such a long wait may be that she has given up any hope of finding a family. The cat rooms are filled to capacity and there is not enough time in a day to give all 100 + cats the attention they deserve but when caregivers can, Kiki will find you on the floor get on your lap and be so happy and content... makes your heart ache! Kiki would be an ideal feline for multiple cat families, great for older people or a mature family with children old enough to give her space. Kiki is one of our many wonderful black cats that are constantly passed over ... we are hoping this time this will not be so. Kiki can be reached by calling 519-833-2287 or email: adoptions@uppercredit. com. KIKI `Mr. Muscle' Max is ready and willing for a new family There is definitely something about a Jack Russell Terrier (JRT) that is unique...it could be there indomitable spirit, courage and energy and natural born good looks that draw you in. Max is no exception, our little "Mr. Muscle" is indeed a muscular, solidly built, tricolour JRT around seven years of age. Max was surrendered because of the owner's pregnancy and the apartment did not allow dogs! Max is housebroken, friendly towards children (10+), has his basic commands, and enjoys car rides in a calm manner. Max was described by his previous owner as being very well behaved and protective. It is apparent that Max sees large dogs as combatants and lets his displeasure known, a JRT has no idea how small they are in stature, because inside that light poundage is a fearless "lion". He has not been tested with cats. Max has everyone smiling as he loves to play ball showing off those rippling muscles and yet is easy to walk on leash often with the typical sign of a JRT "nose to the ground". A big plus for Max is he is able to be left at home on his own without mishap! Mind you "Mr. Muscle" is so cute and obedient, he will probably come with you! Max is ready, willing and quivering with the expectation of his new family coming for a visit. He will take your call at 519-8332287 or email adoptions@ uppercredit.com MAX GLOBAL PET FOODS T he Health F ood S tor e F or Y our P et Annual Event Show Us Your Heart Feb 6 14, 2010 Donate $1 for a heart on the wall Donate $5 and earn 10 bonus AIR MILES® reward miles AND a free personalized heart-shaped pet tag* courtesy of Hill's® Science Diet®!
