12 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, February 11, 2010 GLT opens winter play tonight By SAM HANCOCK Georgetown Little Theatre Southern sass, tears and charm fills the stage as five bank tellers speak their hearts and brew lots of coffee in Mark Dunn's award-winning script, Five Tellers Dancing in the Rain. It's a thought-provoking play about broken hearts and finding strength through friends who have been down that road before. Georgetown Little Theatre is proud to present this beautifully crafted story that takes place in the employee lounge of the Westhaven Commercial and Industrial Bank in northern Mississippi on six consecutive weekday mornings. This is a play of hope, growth, acceptance and resolution that intersects the lives and loves of five very different women. This show provokes us to evaluate our own relationships, and resonates with everyone who has loved and been loved. Director Carol Beauchamp held auditions at GLT's studio in Stewarttown early last December, and from the turnout of amazing actresses could have cast the play three times over! Just about everyone working on the show is a woman, with a couple of notable exceptions being the sound guy and the set builders. This wonderful and moving play has attracted a diverse and excellent array of female talent both on and off stage-- from the director and producers to the stage management team, to costumes and props, from the house manager to a Southern dialect voice coach-- all women! Beauchamp has created a rehearsal atmosphere in which this has become a true ensemble piece, not just between the actors and director, but also with the production and building crew-- everyone is invited to bring their creativity and energy to the table. If you're looking for that perfect Valentine's evening out, why not have dinner in Downtown Georgetown, followed by a performance of Five Tellers Dancing in the Rain? The show runs from February 11-13 and February 17-20, at the John Elliott Theatre. To order tickets by phone, please call the JET Box Office, 905-877-3700.
