One dollar from the sale of each heart-shaped pizza will go to the Boston Pizza Foundation, in support of its many charities, including Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Kids Help Phone. This year the foundation will also allocate a portion of the monies raised to the Haitian earthquake relief efforts. Through their Valentine Pizza promotion, Boston Pizza expects to raise $600,000 internationally. Photo by Ted Brown Cost of new Acton Library skyrockets By CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer The new Acton Library will go to tender with all the bells and whistles despite the price tag being now close to $400,000 over the original price. The new $3.5 million branch will be 9,000 sq. ft.-- more than three times it is now-- and be built just east of the present site. And therein lies the problem. The land has significant elevation changes and the front of the building would sit within the floodplain. Due to Credit Valley Conservation regulations, the sloping topography and the desire to save as many trees as possible, the cost of the foundation and retaining walls will cost $395,000. See ACTON, pg. 4 Former local musician taking part in Games' ceremonies Local boy Adam Broughton, now based in Los Angeles, will be taking centre stage, literally, at the Vancouver Olympic Games' opening ceremonies tomorrow (Friday). Broughton, who uses the stage name Adam James, will be playing bass in the Olympic orchestra in both the opening and closing ceremonies. Broughton's writing partner, Dave Pierce, will be the music director, conductor and producer. The duo wrote one of the only two original songs chosen for the ceremonies, according to mom Cheryl. Bryan Adams wrote and will sing the other. Broughton will also be host emcee for the Bell Stage in Vancouver and is on deck for 11 different medal ceremonies. The organizers are bringing in big-name Canadian talent to be part of these ceremonies, such as the Barenaked Ladies. Broughton will introduce them and of course, will be meeting and greeting athletes and performers. A renowned jazz musician, he will also perform nightly in Vancouver at one of the free venues for visitors. Broughton, the son of Jim and Cheryl Broughton, grew up in Georgetown, went to Georgetown High, then McGill, then became the "voice of Sinatra" in the touring show Sinatra: Remembered. He was chosen by Sinatra's daughter Tina for the part. ADAM BROUGHTON APPLE We handle all insurance work.
