George Perdue George Perdue became an artist sort of by accident. Sixteen years ago, he was training for a marathon and found himself running with an artist friend who was suffering from a stress-related illness. Perdue volunteered to be a student if it would help his friend get away from his high-stress job. He was surprised when his friend took him up on the offer and was even more surprised by how much he enjoyed the lessons. Today, Perdue's passion is landscapes. He likes to take his easels and oil paints and head outside to work en plein air. "I like to paint from life because it trains the eye to be able to see," he says. "I always say I have two studios: an indoor studio and an outdoor one. My outdoor studio is very big." Tizi Manierka When Tizi Manierka was studying graphic design, she would often skip her corporate identity courses to crash the life drawing classes. The self-proclaimed work-in-progress works as a graphic designer by day and pursues a variety of artistic endeavours-- including drawing, painting, watercolours and pastels-- by night. "I'm drawn to figure and life drawing," she says. "Look for a series in the future about the fact that I'm descended from a clown." Manierka gets a little teary when talking about her grandfather, who grew up in the circus. She has an album of black and white photos from his time on the road and hopes to someday do a series of paintings based on those pictures. "In his lifetime, he saw so many things change and develop. Even when he was in his 90s, he would still make people laugh," she says. "In my family, I always thought he was the person most like me." 54TH Huttonville Lions Club Craft & Antique Show Sat.
