Police say the charges relate to three incidents that occurred between February and November 2009 involving the off-duty officer and her former common-law husband of two years. The victim was not injured. Police became aware of the incidents last week, and the officer was charged Friday. Charged with sexual assault, forcible confinement and three counts of assault is Melanie Fedun, 32. Halton police do not normally release the names of those charged in domestic violence cases to protect the victim's identity, but did so in this case because of its policy on transparency regarding its members, said Sgt. Brian Carr. Fedun, a constable, is to appear in Milton Court April 23. She is a uniform patrol officer in Burlington and has been with Halton Police for eight years. ··· A bottle of wine was thrown through a living room window of a Moore Park Cr. home Saturday morning. The resident of the home was awakened about 1:40 a.m. by a large bang, and discovered the bottle and the smashed window. The incident occurred between 12:15 and 12:37 a.m. A small patio table had been knocked over and its mosaic top thrown at the hood and windshield of the vehicle. The driver's side and rear windows were also smashed. ··· Halton Police charged a woman after she was found behind the wheel of a running vehicle in the parking lot at West 7 in Norval about 1:40 a.m. Sunday. Charged with having over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood is Diana Wau, 29, of Mississauga. ··· A four-year-old boy needed help from some Halton Hills firefighters to get off his bicycle Tuesday evening. Firefighters were called to Carruthers Rd. about 8:15 p.m. to assist EMS staff free the child whose foot was caught between the bike's pedal and frame. Vaseline was used to slip the foot out. The boy wasn't seriously injured. A four-year-old Milton girl was transported to the Hospital for Sick Children Monday morning after the car she was in was rear-ended by a van driven by an Acton man. Halton Police say the car experienced mechanical trouble and was stopped at the edge of the road when it was struck from behind. The girl's mother, who was driving the car, and the Acton driver were treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Graham Paine/Metroland West Media Group Acton driver involved in crash that sends youth to hospital A four-year-old Milton girl is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a two-car crash on Trafalgar Rd. in Milton this morning (Monday). A 41-year-old Acton man, and 28year-old woman (the mother of the girl), received non-life threatening injuries in the collision. According to police, shortly after 7 a.m., a Honda Civic-- driven southbound by the Milton woman with her daughter in the backseat-- began to have mechanical difficulties on Trafalgar Rd. just south of Britannia Rd. The woman attempted to get the car off the road, but a portion of the car remained in the lane. The Acton man, who was driving a commercial van also southbound on Trafalgar, was unable to avoid the Honda and rear-ended the car. The girl in the backseat was taken to a Mississauga Hospital by ambulance then later airlifted to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children in serious condition. Trafalgar Road between Lower Base Line and Britannia Road was closed for several hours for investigation by Halton's collision reconstruction unit. The road was reopened at 12:50 p.m. No charges have been laid. Police did not release the names of the victims. Snapped pole causes hydro blackout Approximately 2,900 Halton Hills hydro customers were without power for about two-and-a-half hours Friday because of a fire on a hydro pole on Main St. N. The fire was caused when an insulator failed about 4 p.m. Hydro was out in the downtown Georgetown and surrounding residential area, and River St. area. Halton Hills Hydro crews repaired the pole and line and power was restored by about 6:30 p.m. Halton Police diverted traffic around the area causing backups during the lateday rush hour.
