10 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, March 18, 2010 Dare to Compare the Chartwell Experience John Wilson, Clarence Gooding, Jacques Rheaume, Rick Barlow and Stephen Jones sort out donations for Haiti earthquake victims that were collected by the Acton Baptist Submitted photo Church's MADMEHN members. Response `good' to Haiti appeal The men's group of Acton Baptist Church (MADMEHN-- Men of Acton, Devoutly Meeting Evangelical and Humanitarian Needs), have for the past two weeks been collecting tents, sleeping bags and tarps for shipment to Haiti to aid the recent earthquake victims. "Response has been pretty good to our appeal," says Allan Jensen, spokesman for MADMEHN, "but of course we want to collect as much as we can." The group is working in partnership with Pastor Frank Narcisse and the Eglise Evangelique Baptiste d'Ottawa (the Evangelical Baptist Church of Ottawa). "There is also a need for blankets, and hygiene supplies like soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste," said Jensen. To date the Acton group has assembled some 40 sleeping bags, a similar number of tents and tarps, and several boxes of toothbrushes and toothpastes which they will transport to Ottawa on March 28 to join the rest of the shipment being sent later that week. The MADMEHN are hoping to triple the amount collected so far, and are appealing to other church groups and individuals to support their efforts. "We are very, very grateful for the cheerful and generous response we've seen so far," Jensen says. Jensen added that they have received an impressive donation of six high-quality wheelchairs as well. The MADMEHN will continue to accept donations of new and used equipment until Wednesday, March 24. Please call Allan Jensen at 519-9299138 or Jacques Rheaume at 519-8539556 to arrange for pick-up or drop-off, or to discuss the suitability of something you'd like to donate.
