Photo by Ron Stiel Acton Seniors Centre to offer educational events in April By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre Nineteen members and their guests attended the Birthday Tea on Tuesday. We celebrated not only their birthdays but St. Patrick's Day a little early. The St. Patrick's Day cake, the flowers, decorations and the two little Irish dancers were delightful. Eight-year-old Rylea Wilson has won many awards and her younger sister Olivia is following in her footsteps. Annie Leslie was celebrating her 95th birthday, and several other members were well into their 80s. Congratulations everyone on major milestones. There is a signup sheet for items required for the Bazaar Tea. If you would like to contribute please put your name on the list. There is a poster up about the British Isles Show on Saturday, April 17th and the signup sheet and tickets are at the front desk. The $25 prices includes your admission and the bus. For those who haven't been before there is lots of British stuff for sale and the entertainment is always great. The St. Patrick's dinner was a great success, and 119 members and guests enjoyed the tasty Irish stew, Yorkshire pudding (not sure what they had to do with Irish cuisine, but enjoyable all the same), two beautiful cakes with Irish themes-- one had a picture of our very entertaining Juke Box entertainers and leprechauns and the second cake had shamrocks and a pot of gold. Everyone enjoyed the dancing, and singing and hope to see Ron and Betty again soon. The door prizes were also in keeping with a taste of Ireland. The 50/50 was worth $134 and was won by Pat Galton-- so the drinks are on him next time. Real and his crew gave us a wonderful evening and we look forward to April 7 when we experience April in Paris, with coq au vin and Parisian potatoes on the menu. Pauline Barlow, our new program chair, has given me a list of upcoming events: · On Tuesday, April 6, at 1:30 p.m. SALT (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) will have a presentation regarding keeping your identity safe. They will photocopy your I.D. for free (driver's licence, healthcare card, etc.). Everyone hears horror stories of people's identity being used by strangers, so this is a great opportunity to learn how to keep your identity secure. · There is a list up for aspiring models for the Fashion Show on Tuesday, April 20. It will feature fashions by Alia. Everyone is looking forward to seeing the latest in colours and styles for spring and summer. · Now that the sun is getting warmer we will soon be concerned about skin care. There will be a presentation by Shoppers Drug Mart on Care for the Mature Skin on Tuesday, April 27. So hopefully, we will find out how to have wonderful, smooth, problem-free skin. The travel desk have a great trip planned to see the Famous People Players on Thursday, May 13 at their new dinner theatre. The show is called Rock and Roll Heaven. Just a reminder that the Acton Seniors Centre will be closed for Good Friday, April 2 and Easter Monday, April 5.
