4 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, March 25, 2010 Acton BIA to launch Thursday Farmers' Market By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer Area residents will have another option for picking up some fresh produce this summer-- the Acton Farmers' Market. The Acton BIA has decided to launch the market on Thursday, June 17 on Willow St. between Mill and Church Sts. The market will run every Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. through October 7. Acton BIA manager Josey Bonnette said they have already lined up five produce/food vendors and three arts/craftspeople for the market and are hoping to hear from many others. She said the BIA had talked about starting a farmers' market for two years, and began looking seriously at it last year. They have applied for an Ontario Market Investment Fund grant. Bonnette said they selected Thursday as the day for the market so as not to compete with other markets in the area, which hold their markets on Saturday. Also, they thought the afternoon/ evening market would appeal to people heading home from work. Any farmers, food vendors or arts and crafts people interested in selling their goods at the market are asked to call Acton BIA at 519-853- The popularity of farmers' markets has prompted the Acton BIA to offer one on Thurs9555 or e-mail actonbia@cogeco. days, beginning June 17, on Willow Street. Halton Police are urging area residents to lock their vehicles. "It's a crime of opportunity," said Det. Sgt. Murray Drinkwalter. "Take your valuables-- GPS, cell phones and laptops-- inside at night, or lock them in your trunk." Three vehicles were entered at three different residences on Atwood Dr. early Tuesday morning. All the vehicles were unlocked. Taken was change, credit cards, identification and a GPS. Another vehicle was entered on Jocelyn Cr. late Monday or early Tuesday and three more on Mowat Cr. were entered.
