10 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday,April 6, 2010 Police blotter Punch-up over cigarette results in assault charge A Mississauga woman is facing an assault charge in connection with an incident outside of the McGibbon Hotel about 1:50 a.m. Sunday. Halton Police report two women were outside smoking when they became involved in an altercation over a cigarette. One woman punched the other woman, 41, of Mississauga, who was not injured. Charged is Alicja Kachnicz, 28, of Mississauga. ··· A trailer and contractor's tools-- valued at $20,000 in total-- were stolen from behind a shop on Guelph St. sometime Saturday or Sunday. Police report a black dump trailer with the plate F6399L on it, was taken along with a contractor's container containing about $10,000 worth of construction and scaffolding equipment. ··· A Harman Kardon stereo valued at $100 was stolen from a garden shed at a Salmon Way, Acton, residence between March 23 and Friday, April 2. ··· Two cabs parked in the lot at E Z Taxi on Mill St. were entered about 5 a.m. Friday. Stolen from one cab was a VISA machine. Change and sunglasses were taken from the other. Police are looking for two young males in connection with the incident. They are both 15 to 16 years old with thin builds, and were wearing black hoodies. ··· A yellow gold engagement ring and a ring with six birthstones valued at $700 in total were taken from a vehicle parked at a Gardiner Dr. residence sometime between 2 and 8:40 a.m. Sunday. The study is required to address potential structural and geometric improvements to Mississauga Road/Old Main Street and Bush Street. No road widening to accommodate additional lanes is proposed in this area. The approximate limits of the study area are illustrated on the map. The Process The study is being conducted in accordance with the requirements for a Schedule "C" project as described in the Municipal Engineers Association's Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) document (October 2000, as amended in 2007). The Class EA process will include public review and agency consultation, an evaluation of road improvement alternatives, an assessment of the potential environmental effects of the proposed improvements, and identification of reasonable measures to mitigate any adverse impacts. Public Information Centre Public consultation is vital to this study. We want to ensure that all stakeholders with an interest in this study have the opportunity to get involved and provide input. As part of this study, three Public Information Centers (PICs) will be held, with the first PIC scheduled for: Thursday, April 8, 2010 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Belfountain Community Centre 17204 Main St. Belfountain The PIC will consist of an informal drop-in centre with display information on the study findings to date which will include study background information and identified problems and opportunities.
