Survey to gauge childcare needs By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer Links2Care wants your input on childcare services. The organization is currently looking at a new location for its Links2Kids Early Learning and Childcare Centre, now located at 83 Main St. N., and is assessing the services it delivers. It wants to hear from the public on childcare services for the future in Georgetown and is asking area residents to fill out a survey that can be found at www.links2care.ca/ Links2Care is considering building a new centre in the Mountainview Rd./Guelph St. area that would include the Ontario Early Years Centre and the Links2Kids Childcare Centre, which offers subsidized spaces. Links2Care executive director Sandra Melhuish said they are considering some new components such as nursery school and fee for service programming for things such as French, drama and summer camps. The number of spaces available for school age children would be increased from 24 to 64. "We want to know if we build the centre, invest the money, is there going to be enough interest in the community?" said Melhuish. If they go ahead with the new facility, construction could begin this summer with December 2010 being the earliest opening date. Renovation of the 6,500 sq. ft. space would cost approximately $350,000 and Links2Care has applied for a $150,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant. "If the whole plan doesn't move forward I will withdraw the application from Trillium," said Melhuish. "The input from the community will give us some more information so we can make some constructive decisions," said Melhuish. The survey also asks area residents if they would be interested in paying for transportation from their child's school to Links2Care Before and After School programming, and how much they would be willing to pay. 11 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday, April 6, 2010 HAVE YOU HEARD?
